Does anyone have experience with this drug? i do now... just got it prescribed for my "mild ADD"
........i have never been as absorbed in school as when im on dex.....
its dexamphetamine..... which means its basically just amphetamines - speed
but it affects ppl w/ ADD differently than most... instead of making you hyper it makes you FOCUSED like a fucking laser..... instead of thinking about tons of things at once, and jumping from one thing to another, your brain just stays focused on whatever you want, 100% (this lasts a few hours for me with a 5mg pill)
it basically makes you better at everything... i sort of feel like its cheating
anyways its still amphetamines, a stimulant... after those few hours, (for me) it makes you more aggressive, more accute/allert, think faster, and makes it impossible to sleep... ....the US gives amphetamines to figher pilots for these reason
(the pilots who bombed Canadians in Afghanistan were on "go pills"... this resulted in some controversy over its use)
so anyways whats your experience with dex, or with speed?
a friend of mine was telling a pharmacology student that hes prescribed dexamphetamines for ADD... and she was like "what?? are you sure???..... thats basically, exactly, street speed"
well its methoamphetamine (or something like that).. so its a little different, and it usually has other shit in it to make you happy and what not

think of it this way, ADD isn't a disorder or anything, it's just a collection of symptoms.
more plainly, it's not physiological, or nuerological as far as anyone can tell, so drugs for ADD is, IMO a placebo at best.
I know it works, but taking speed would work to, you aren't fixing the problem, just masking it.

yeah thats hwo i think of it... just a collection of 'symptoms'
anyways im not interested in 'fixing the problem' of having ADD... i dont care, i like the way i think
i want to solve the problem of not being able to concentrate on work, which dex does.
and just cus ADD isn't 'real' doesn't mean dex is a plecebo..... amphetamines are a pretty real drug.... its not my imagination that it makes me focus like never before
plus they test these things againts REAL placeboes (ie surgar pills that actually have no affect on your brain)

I kind of contradicted myself there, I'll clarify.
I have no doubt it affects you, and that it works to help you study. The placebo I refered to was that it was "fixing" your ADD.
If you don't care about that, at least you aren't being duped like lots of kids.
However, I had some of the problems you did, and I payed for my ass to talk to a psychologist for a couple of times, did some Cognative Behavioral Therapy.
Well, I conentrate just fine, because I talked about my goals, and what I wanted to do, and when you know that, you just do the shit you need to, no matter how hard it was to study before.
Don't let them drug you dood.

right -- i think it's incorrect to dinstinguish the effects of speed based on add-diagnosis of user.. i've abused it several times and it makes me crazy focused as well.. it's a well documented effect at lower dosages.

That sucks things aren't going great for you, but maybe it wouldn't be better to solve your problem with drugs with yet another drug..

Ive used this drug many times in my past.
we used to take the time release caps off of them, seperate the sugar balls from the dex ones and add them to our slurpee's/soda and drink away, .... good speed. clean stuff.
dont use it too much though, as it will eventually change you a bit.

WTF is dexadrine the same as dexamphetamine now?
man I eat dexxies a bit, every couple of weeks they replace speed as the thing (when we can get them). they're really good, 10 will keep you up and awake all night no matter how stoned you get :P

dexedrine is the reason there is a 'drug war' and why cocaine is illegal

as for changing you as far as I can guess it'd be the same as any phets change you - make you a little aggressive, lack of patience etc etc etc

and blatant echo is wrong.. there is a neurochemical basis upon which all studies in this disorder (I'm still a little tentative about calling it that.. but only because of the ubiquity of it and how overdiagnosed it is) function. dexedrine is obviously a stimulant,, but it stimulates also ones focus and channels energy/focus rather than having it divided up on a frist come-first served kind of chaos... it does seem weird that they'd prescribe legal speed for a hyperactivity disorder.. but it does serve a direct purpose in properly appropriating attention

so....dexadrine IS dexamphetamine?
fuck me.
but i can vouch for that - it DOES make you focussed liek hell - I eat them and if nothing is happening I'll end up making really detailed music or drawing for hours

last I read, MRIs showed a possible increase in glutamate and lower than normal levels of GABA.
soooooo, you could be right, though all these kids were poping Ritalin for their ADD.
--------- On an related note, I'd love someone to explain how all of a sudden this has come up.
I mean, either A) AD/HD just mutated into the physicology of humans for some reason about 30 years ago, or
B) humans are being asked to do things that are bringing this "normal" annomoly to light in a way that people consider it a disorder

as far as i'm concerned it's (ADD) a scapegoat for bad parenting.
or things like child not eating and exercising properly.
i could be wrong though
I'm not complaining either though coz i like taking all their meds!

A) is like saying prostate cancer only started to exist once it was 'discovered' by the medical community and given the name 'prostate cancer'
.....or "scientificized", which i think is a pretty cool sounding word
B) is pretty interesting we didn't evolve to sit in a chair 8 hours a day but then again..... give us a few million years and maybe we will

good point, man, but i still think a lot of kids who misbehave through bad parenting are diagnosed as ADD and are fed pills.
As I stated earlier this point is purely elementary as I'm all for dexxies being in existance. I actually found a bunch in my bag a min ago and I'm gonna eat them tonight and make a whoile bunch of CDs and make tracks tonight instead of going out :P
