Sounds like you were having fun. At 4 mins the track just goes boring. Maybe it's the choir sounds. At that point you kinda expect it to pick up some speed or intensity.

the melodic components are too simplistic, repetitive and stiff, although there are some nice moments. pitch-shifting arpeggios are a pet peeve of mine, i just don't like the sound. i think the mix needs more subtlety and depth. but i think you've got a nice knack for the beats, and your track has an appealing whimsical playfulness. there's also a lot of variety in beats and sounds, but sometimes the sounds seem to border on incongruity, they don't always quite fit together. overall an interesting, enjoyable listen, but it still needs work. makes me think of µ-ziq, ultramarine, plaid.

incidentally, i like what happens at about the four minute mark, it's a little awkward/stiff but i like the idea of bringing in the cello and then building to the new melodic motif (the one the track ends on).

Not bad for a first track! (Or do you just mean this is the first online track?)
I'd lose the lose the tambourine sound, but other than that the drums/perc. is good. I like the playful quality of the melody. The last minute and a half make me think of the sort of music you get on old warez intros/installers :)
I think this could benefit from some silly high pitched vocals (either from a cartoon or speed up some semi-serious bit of dialogue) chopped in time to the beat.

sensitive, eh?
i've been making electronic music on and off since 1997, but most of that time it was only with a rebirth demo and then a crack of rebirth 1.5.
this last year i've dedicated a lot more time and effort to making tracks, and have better tools.
my first efforts were a cover of a song about excessive condiments ("don't lay that stuff on me") and a cassette-edited remix of a live performance of "calling dr. love" by kiss. i also enjoyed creating impromptu percussion works for clothes washer and dryer. favorite early phrases included "shoo be doo" and "nip it in the bud."
though neither a message board nor public favorite, with my music i continue to fill a much needed void.
and you???

No not at all I've mentioned it plenty of times on the board when I started making tracks. I started at school which was about '94 I think. And I got serious about 1998 thats when I got my own little bit of equipment and was able to do it in my free time but you know how these things are its an on and off thing.

I hate the beat. It's the most overused rhythm in music. Lose some of the samples and "ting ting" things going on I would, it makes it sound too amateurish. The melody is very familiar and not powerful enough, but does show potential. Basically I think it's half formed, you need to develop your ideas fully as none of them are yet strong enough to envelope my attention. If I seem harsh I will say that most of it was put together quite well, you can get a flow going.

jarwoski's avatar is distracting me too much to focus on the song.
it does sound like there's ALOT of stock sounds though, i'd say download some analogue drum sample maker things and try making all your own drum samples but using the same beat patterns. that'd be funky and original. also a few more layers of melody couldn't hurt.

there is a piano of some sorts that i can hear and i would add some effects to it or drop it all together.
the beat: I like how you structured it without going overboard. You gave it just the correct variety IMO. Although at certain times it appears that they sound kind of standard and could use something extra..... i am not sure what.
The melody is quite neat.
I liked the song and think you did good!

yes.
measure the length of your buttocks and divide that by how long your tongue is.
eat a sandwhich and then burp 15 times.
take 15 and subtract that from that one other number and then you will get this completely useless number that won't help you.

i think the sounds used have a very generic, general midi kind of sound. which sometimes works but not really in this song. i think some of the melodic ideas and individual "movements" are good, but a little too repetitive. the mastering/mixdown needs bit of work.
for a "first ever track" kind of track though, it is pretty damn good. interesting melodies, a few interesting breaks. post more. i'll listen.

i typically enjoy simple beats, but these are a bit too straightforward, i think. i might not notice if it were shorter, but at 6 minutes, i kinda pick it up, heh. but they're well done, yes. just mix 'em up a bit more, i s'pose. the piano that comes in around 1:30 doesn't really work, i don't think. just doesn't match with the bassy-thinger-ding. and i like the idea at 4 minutes, yes. but that piano just throws everything off, i think. still, enjoyable in a fun, silly kindof way. if you know...what i mean..yes. anyways, keep it up. keep sharin' 'em with us, yeah? =]
