He played a dj set at Real Groovy (our favorite local
record store). It was energetic and highly charged techno
using 3 turntables....awesome..he was constantly busy
improvising while still keeping it hard and funky without
missing a beat

yeah, he's handy with turntables...not quite my kind of
music tho...funky is what bothers me :)

Whatever people may say about Mr Cox's style of techno (that
it is pretty bland and only really listenable in a club
enironment), he is to be praised for making three deck DJing
more popular. True, it was done before he was famous
(Grandmaster flash used 3 decks by chaining mixers back in
the late 70s! as an aside- he was also an electronics whizz
and modded his gear, not unlike a certain Mr. James...), but
he really popularised the technique for use in clubs/raves
back before samplers were commonplace. I think this is often
overlooked by my generation (now we've got samplers few
people bother with more than two decks or 2cd/2vinyl
combination), but at the time it really raised the bar with
how creative a dj could be.

I want to investigate some more UMEK..his work on Laibach
WAT is mighty impressive...

But COX was definetly a revelation..we were pleasantly
surprised as he is more associated with house....no house in
this set.....beyond the three decks..the sound was so crisp
and crunchy it punched you right in the chest....

i heard he can do decent sets :)

as for umek...perhaps try neuro, its alright, but he just
wants to make it too perfect...and i kind of dont like that,
too organised (heh it doesnt make much sense) or something
:)

things sounding less than perfect too:)

heh, you better give it a listen first...it reminds me of
orbital a lot and he must have listened to drukqs...but the
way album is done it reminds me a ot of chris clark-not that
music is anything alike (i like neuro much more)-both umek
and clark seem to be excellent in technique and skill but
they lack ideas imo.

if you like wat, you might like neuro as well...try and get
it on soulseek
i should upload it at elusives actually, surely some ppl
will like it - i'll do it tomorrow
