fuck that, dido's first album was great, i just don't know what happened this time around. just because we don't like their singing style doesn't mean they 'suck'. i really don't care at all for celine dion, but it'd be stupid if i said she can't sing, or she has no talent. |

you don't think whitney or mariah have range? i can think of few mainstream singers who can hit the notes they hit and carry each song with such power or, sometimes, grace. celine is a runner-up. i don't like the songs but i recognize the talent behind them. don't let your musical preference cloud your judgment of talent. alanis and shania are cool because they have attitude and personality. even when shania's being commercial she's still being genuine and it shows. alanis has done very little purposely commercial music IMO, she's successful doing what her artistic side guides her to do, and that shows as well. again, these aren't two artists i particularly like, but i appreciate what they do and the artistry behind it. |

aside from all the usual poptarts, i'm not an admirer of mira calix's stuff. it's obvious she's only famous because she's female and is with one of the ae guys. If a random bloke tried to get on warp with the stuff she puts out i doubt he'd stand a chance. the pic in the xlt gallery of her at atp standing next to andrea parker cracked me up. the caption 'what does this do?' just doesn't do it justice! |
