I've only used Noisetracker 2.0 and ProTracker 1.1 and 1.3b.
Swithching to a PC stopped me from using those. Four lovely
channels, 2 left and 2 right. You wanted the drums to be
centered in stereo? Well you had to sacrifice half of the
tracks.

The ones that get my thumbs up thru out history were :

Protracker (Amiga 500-600, etc)
Fast Tracker II (Dos PC Pent 90-133)
Mad Tracker (Windows PC Pent 200)
Modplug (Windows PC Pent 200)
Renoise (a PC decent!)

I'm still learning how to use it, but renoise looks good so
far in my limited dabblings with it.

My only complaint is the choice of filename- everyone knows
.rns files are used by reason!

It seemed to become popular recently when people discovered
Vsnares uses a tracker! haw haw!

Madtracker! I can't wait until MT3 comes out! Check the
progress, and be amazed.

It will be a VST-supporting (and possibly direct-x)
tracker!

Use MadTracker!

Shinier GUI, you mean? More magic pixie dust?

Sorry, but this argument doesn't make sense on its own,
especially without data to support it... in my opinion and
experience it's also untrue. (no offense/flamewar/arrogance
intended)

Many of the synths do sound relatively crappy on their own,
but that's what effects are for. I find it extremely silly
and annoying when the occasional VSTi I use has effects
included, I like it much more if they're on their own. It
sort of makes sense for hardware synths to have effects
built in, but it's one of the most annoying and stupid
things that can be done in music software to directly use
design and interface concepts etc. from music hardware.

From what I've heard (I mean, the tracks I've heard, not
other people's opinions) other trackers such as Renoise have
far better sound quality than Buzz.

I mean, even Fasttracker on the Amiga had a sound you could
love, even if it was your typical old videogame sound. Buzz
on the other hand has to have one of my least favourite
basic sounds. I've never heard a track that sounds
"proffessional" made in it...

As to the UI, no I like it, but Audiomulch does a similair
thing that I like more.

I'm not a tracker expert by any means- just learning them
for completions sake, so it's just my opinion.

The thing is, Buzz doesn't HAVE a "basic sound". There are
some 200 generators (synths, samplers etc.) and 400 effects,
by dozens of developers, all of which do their work
differently. (that, I think, is also why it's so hard for
people to get into it quickly; too much choice, it's hard to
find out which machines are good and which aren't without a
lot of messing around trying them out)

But please, explain what you mean by "better sound quality"
and "professional".
