so there's your mature argument to that

ive seen amsterdam, stayed for three days - the novelty of
marijuana wears off after the first 24 hours, though the
museums and record shopping are good

maine is cold, so is new england, but when your raised here
it feels less cold - i fucking love snow so i cant picture
much w/o it

i'm an american that has been living in sweden for 4 months
so far. i always said that i wanted to get the fuck out of
america and move to europe, but little by little i'm
starting to realize that the US isn't so bad...i kind of
miss it even. european cities are pretty cool though,
especially berlin.

great topic--ive narrowed down the country im going to live
in to 5 choices--australia, canada, england, norway, or
sweden. ive heard in australia you can get a masters degree
in like 2 years because they go through the summer, is this
true?

Why Norway?

Imagine a country where nature is a majestic gift to
mankind. Imagine a country enjoying the abundance of nature.
Accumulated through thousands of years. You will discover a
country, which is enchantingly unique. Natural. Imagine a
country where light and darkness intertwine. Where seasons
melt together in colours and crystals. Imagine a country
where the thawing snow gives way to blossom. Where sea and
mountain unite. Where nature is a precious gift to mankind.
Discover a country where nature creates art. Where you are
invited to a life-fulfilling experience of diversity.

Friendly, down-to-earth people, unique scenery, summer
nights bright as day and delightful snowy winters make
Norway a very special country. In summer, there are plenty
of attractions and activities to keep you busy - the
unspoilt open country of the Sámi people in the north and
fjords, salmon fishing and festivals in the south.

(something i should have stated earlier)

im looking at europe for two major reasons

1) im tired of living in rural areas and want some city
livin, hence the european cities list

2) i like the idea of being able to wake up and travel to
different countries in europe w/o having to take a 9 hour
plane flight

dig?

out of that list
-barcelona
-paris
-london
are my favourites...london and paris are pretty expensive
and that is a big disadvatage
barcelona is very suitable city for young people imo, at
least from what i've experienced
i never been to prague tho...could be nice as well

if your serious about changing your life then maybe you
should vists each of these cities first and not rely
entirely on what the board thinks. But trust me on the
london being crap.

better than being a tourist and having that be your idea of
a country / city

and the nightlife there. Hella expensive though.

its quite close to most of the big european cities and still
a bit remote - like oasis in the middle of the crazy europe
:)

if i'm not mistaken, i've heard ljubliana referred to as
"little prague" except without the tourists...now that's not
a bad combination!

i have a friend who just recently moved to prague and loves
it

i could dig a smaller, non-touristy version

the only thing i'd like to do is to get a house in our
region (close to sea and italy) called karst, really a nice
place, only about 30 km to airport and about 80km to our
major city. anyway its a beautiful landscape, very much
alike provance (in southern france)...
its going to take me few more years tho...

i guess it depends on what are you specialised in :)

a buddy of mine's been looking for a job ever since he
finished university about 6 months ago, i dont think its
much better in other cities around

imo.
the total lack of a strict college admissions process has
fucked this country on it's ear.

my school, for example, is FULL of very very stupid people
who simply go to college because that is "what you do when
you graduate high school" - this in turn floods the job
market w/ total morons every summer after graduation

my hopes are to graduate and just get a job i enjoy -
prefereably working in a record shop - and drastically
changing my lifestyle to get used to having less money then
i live with now

what could i do in europe? who knows - that move may take a
few years from now but still i like to get peoples general
ideas about the globe - through the eyes of a local, not the
eyes of someone who visited for a week and claims to be a
fucking tour guide

i feel the same way...i would love to just work at a small
record store and be happy than some bullshit 9 to 5 desk
job. i don't know how realistic that is, but it's a nice
dream anyway.

In terms of a Paris/London comparison I'd say go for Paris.
That's an unbiased opinion as I have lived in both cities
for extensive periods of time. Then again you would need a
fairly high level of french unless you managed to be
employed by an american company here.

i've heard it's a real bitch for non-europeans such as
americans to find work/get permit in europe unless you're
highly specialized in something, company sends you over,
have family connections, or marry a native.

I think it's harder for us europeans to move over to the
states actually.

yeah, i wouldn't doubt that...either way it's a lot of
paperwork and too much of a hassle sometimes, but if you're
determined enough to get out of wherever you may come from
than i'm sure it's entirely possible.
