Who's actually heard anything by this fellow?
I can't track a fucking thing down no matter how hard i
try...

For those who...

...don't know.

i've heard a few tracks, it varies from album to album, but
generally amateur drony blues folk.
one track was called "i painted my teeth," in which jandek
shout/moans about how he painted his teeth, then his lady
friend says "no, don't paint your teeth" and then he moans
"i painted my teeth, behind your back" and so on.

uniquely awful.

I'd still like to hear his stuff, it's just picking up any
of the records round here that's the problem. I don't really
want to order 50 identical jandek cds in bulk mail order
from the record label (apparently the only real way to get
yer hands on his RECENT stuff, never mind the rarities).

i wasn't trying to talk you out of it! : )

he's got a cult following, based (i think) on the mysterious
personality, and unusual rawness of his work. irwin chusid
called it "unashamedly repellant." i've got an mp3 excerpt
of "painted your teeth" but i can't find the site.

From link 1: "Jandek's songs are terrifyingly ugly; in the
context of his decades of persistence, the range and mass of
his work, they become intensely beautiful and meaningful.
They are absolute, pure self-expression, an unfocused, unlit
snapshot of his entire adult life."

I first heard about him through an interview with jeffrey
lewis (a big favourite of mine). Soulseek comes up with a
big fat zero... the only songs i can find are pretty poor
covers of his stuff. Apparently low have done a version of
one track but no luck on that either.

Btw: the photographs for his album sleeves are stunning:
