funckarma has infected the world!

Just heard the shadow huntaz, and it is BALLS! I don't
know which was worse, the rappers or the music. Funckarma
have released under tons of names and tons of labels, all
which pretty much suck....I hear there is a warp release
coming up...now, do they really deserve that? skam was bad
enough.

"do they really deserve that?"

Nope.

and now for my question. Is warp losing taste and
credibility by changing the overall style of artists that
are signed?

from changing the style to shit, yes.

there are, believe it or not, acts that are WAY better and
way more deservant of a bigger label.

I quite like the Solid State album from them - have you
heard it?

Yeah i have noticed that since i have been digging deep into
the IDM genre. It's a shame and makes me wonder why they
still get so much sales. Everyone should take notice of the
smaller labels which seem to have more (dare i say Talented)
artists.

unfortunately, i have them all..heheh, you wanna talk
quench, cenik, anything, you name it.

quench actually is something i was getting into recently.

Did they start off good and slowly run their career into the
ground? What do you think is their best work? I don't have
any of their official stuff - I downloaded mp3s of Solid
State after reading a positive review and never found a hard
copy at the shop.

i have both parts and solid state...i was into them at
first, but now that i think about it i guess it's gotten a
little stale.

Career - I meant their artistry I guess. If they ahve an
upcoming Warp release I'd have to say their career is fine.

Solid State is a good album.

mimi, why would you acquire every recording of an artist you
dislike?

i have to say, while funckarma are not favorites, i think
they have considerable skill, and the respect they enjoy
among more established artists and labels demonstrates that
they are not the complete waste of time that you suggest.

they do have a very refined style that has grown less
fashionable but to dismiss them entirely seems unfair.

i unfortunately have a problem with keeping myself from
finishing record label catelogues. and seeing as they're
such label whores, i've ended up with quite a funckarma
collection.

their releases under the name quench are their best, they've
got plenty of songs on tons of compilations. punctuated is
all right. but if i am not mistaken i believe there's a
third party involved so it's not just the funcken twins or
whatever.

to me they seem pretty deservant of being dismissed
entirely. their style is just so flat.

Mwahaha, that's a disease not a hobby! Whenever I find
myself collecting for the sake of collecting I mentally
*fwap* myself in the face with a rubber chicken.

their records (which i got before my soulseek days).

Hmm, I've always enjoyed Funckarma, and the Quench project
as well. Check out Funckarma's "Bourbon Sounds", it's a
wicked little e.p.

to each her own, i suppose. out of curiosity, what are a
few of the artists that you think are more deserving of
warp-level interest?

i actually haven't bought anything really bad in quite
awhile. maybe electric birds was the last mostly bad album
i bought.

i actually prefer funckarma to quench... but i think i've
heard enough of each.

i have some traks from funckarma/cane coming out on colony
and i promise you they are ruff ... i don't know about the
past stuff i don't have but the bits i do are good ...

warp are a good label and it's good they release records
they believe in i guess, it's their call but i don't buy
everything they release who buys every product from any
label ?

i really want to hear that shadowhuntaz material i heard
some before that i thought was pretty good to be honest so
i'm surprised to hear it be said it's whak ...

is it just that 7" that's out then ?

and yes i'd read the whole thread ...

i was just commenting on the fact that warp have released
alot of material ...

I think the way to look at it is this, they can make tracks.
Does that mean there talented, no. Funckarma sounds like
your classic IDM sound and all there releases barely evolve.
Now I know there are lots of groups like that but the
difference is that funckarma for releasing as much stuff as
they have can never pull off anything outstanding. Its like
fuck, I would rather have them have three releases total
with there best tracks on those three then ten plus releases
under three names with maybe one good track each. You got
to wonder do they throw any tracks away? The underground is
so in love with them its sick, its like if your a new label
and can get a funckarma track or album you shit your pants,
just look at n5md and they way portland wants to suck them
off. So fuck it let them be underground gods but to me
Warp, skam, rephlex are higher quality labels and I agree
that seeing them release on those labels dosent seem right
talent wise.

I think they are ace

not groundbreaking that for sure, but they make pretty nice
tracks

hey, you never answered my question! but there's still
time:

"to each her own, i suppose. out of curiosity, what are a
few of the artists that you think are more deserving of
warp-level interest?"

OK, well bearing in mind that when I made this post warp
wasn't a complete joke yet. I don't really think it is any
great honor to be on warp anymore.

If warp had gone a different route and picked up small guys
like Vesna or Verbose (who, while neither have had many
releases at all, the releases they have put out were
completely and solidly awesome), warp would be a lot cooler
in my book! The funcken twins have had zillions of boring,
flat garbage put out on every label known to mankind.

I have enjoyed everything they have done, with Quench taking
the front above Funckarma. All things considered, they are
relatively talented at settling into a mood without being
all blippy blappy and skittery scatty. So be it. Its not
like VSnares is doing much evolution or ground breaking
stuff album to album either. But that is apples and oranges
comparing icey idm to ballsey breakcore. Again, whatever.

What I really want to know is:

WHAT ARE THE BETTER ARTISTS YOU SAID SHOULD BE 'MORE
DESERVING' ?!?!?!?!

Also, compared to what warp have signed since, funckarma are
pretty much geniuses.

Also, even though Seymour Bits is kind of big, I wouldn't
mind seeing him get even more exposure. He would definitely
help out their roster.

Snow sences is rather forgettable for me. I have to
confess, I like funckarma MUCH better than Boring of Canada.
