i got a brilliant hip hop album today - the thing is its in french, and yeah, i dont speak french, i only catch a word here and there hehe
but i bought some other french hip hop releases before and i dont really mind the language issue - i just like the laid back style of french hip hopers
how important are the lyrics to you?

i'd like to understand the japanese lyrics for Noriko Tujiko's "Hard Ni Sasete" album... they're all included in the "booklet" (tray cards actually) but all in japanese...

when it comes to lyrics, i usually like to hear lyrics that mean something - but if the music is wonderful enough, they could speak Martian for all I care as long as I enjoyed it. :D
Music is the universal language. The dialect that breaks all barriers.

here's an idea - music labels could start putting short files with lyrics on cd's (perhaps even with translation into english), that would be pretty helpfull :)

my point is tolstoyed, if you arre enjoying the album without knowing what is being said then therre's no prroblem you don't need to know what is being said.
if you did know you might like the album morre... orr less.

I find that I can enjoy albums without understanding all the lyrics (if they're in another language). It just makes me want to study those languages though, in order to increase my enjoyment.

I would rather have French lyrics I don't understand than English ones I do, but which are crap.

so most of us think about the same about this...but really, lyrics is probably the most important element in rap/hip hop...
i'll continue buying french rappers tho :)

Good point -- there have been times I've been a little disappointed when I've gotten around to translating lyrics only to find that they're not that deep -- should have left them mysterious in their native tongue.

when i started to listen ae, boc etc [almost] everything became just a sound (no more, no less) for me.... so i don't care much about lyrics (i actually don't care about anything).....though sometimes lyrics can be interesting
