New double CD version of one the 90's classic IDM events.
Disc one
reissues Never Mind the Distortions, originally issued in
1994 by SSR
in Belgium (now unavailable). This album featured
mesmerizingly
dreamy mixes of the unknown-to-the-west Japanese pop
senstation Nav
Katze by Aphex, Black Dog , Reload, Global Communication,
Ultramarine. This was one of the all time defining remix
albums and
will put you in the perfect tub of ecstatic glaze. Disc two
reissues
Never Mind The Distortion II, which has always been a
Japanese-only
follow-up release. It features additional remixes by The
Gentle
People, Disjecta, Sun Electric, Seefeel, µ-Ziq and
Autechre -- and
for lush, atmospheric futuristic pop deconstruction this is
as good
as you can expect.

is this any good?

it's a japanese issue, that's why it's so expensive.
unfortunately, i already have part two, so it'd cost me $40
for one cd. the global communications remix is excellent,
almost 15 minutes long (a jazzy, lulling ambient piece, it
was included on the gc remix album). one of the afx mixes
was on 26 mixes. part two is sketchy, with too many weak
mixes. the sun electric remix is amazing, though.
ultimately i'd say this is probably as essential as remix
sets get.

correction to nacmat's post on volume two, "tiny cog" is
actually yet another disjecta remix. all of the disjecta
and seefeel remixes are mark clifford only, the rest of
seefeel were not involved.

good christ, are the other mixes as good as the aphex ones?
they're among m favs on 26 mixes...

note, "happier..." is actually credited to seefeel on the
disc, not disjecta.
