depends on mood, both are classics that i don't think could be any more perfect for what they are.
lately i've preferred their earlier, more punk material, so UP and Still it is. but when i want something even darker, more depressing, and complex, i go to Closer. they were going in such a musically great direction but i guess you can't go far before it ends like it did.

Unknown Pleasures for me. Rocks harder AND I find it more depressing, for some reason. I like the guitar work more, has bite and sting. Closer is probably the ''better'' album, but UP is more my style.
I did like the direction they were going, but some of the songs don't click with me, despite the better production.

I like the Warsaw stuff too, for sheer agression, 'At a Later Date' and 'Novelty' are probably my favorite out of the '77 period.
You're right though, both albums are classics, and although i always tend to go for closer, they seem to be like novels to me; perfect novels that i listen to from start to finsh every time.

Well, I know there's an alternate version on Still, it's not as good as the original though. Better bass and percussion, don't like his voice as much though.
I would and do shake my ass to that track all the time though!

i like to throw joy division songs into my radio dj sets, it's so different yet they always fit so well (IMO). even if you're not familiar with the band you just can't help but be moved by their music, it was really special. maybe i can download the demos from Ophecks on slsk over winter break, i haven't heard them yet.

thats just a live version on Still of their last gig (coincidently, there SHOULD have been a "Twenty Four Hours" live on it, but factory cut the song out, to save space i think..i have the mp3 though) - it'll probably get a re-issue soon with it on it
