My friend goes to a school for computer game designs...
he is working on his first person shooter game, and asked me for a dark, ambient piece to play in the background (im gonna edit it to be loopable in the game) but here it is just straight through...
lemme know what you think!
my score

Its hard to tell. Have you seen the graphics or played the demo at all? If so, then you have probably made your track to fit the mood of the game.
If not, then is it a fast paced shooter deathmatch type of game set on another planet? Or is it a more of a sly sneaky first person game set in a future metropolis?

I like it, but I dunno... I can't picture this track fitting well into the scheme of a ''first person shooter'', at least not during gameplay. Maybe during an intro or a cutscene, it would be effective.
If this was a survival horror game, it could fit like a glove in many situations.

No I havnt played it... but he asked specifically for a dark, tense ambient track... so thats what I went for.
If its not right, i told him id make a different one...
but I like it... i dunno, I havnt written an ambient peice in awhile, and so it feels good to write it again :)

making ambient music is soooo easy. it doesnt require much talent, and most of the time it sounds lush. it takes skill to make experimental and IDM. so keep makin ambience, and giving a mellow slow drum beat can sound good. like blue calx as an example. but i guess your going for something dark.

it's easy to make bad music no matter what the genre (and i should know), but whether you're talking about idm or ambient it still takes talent to compose a quality track

i have no doubts as to fruity loops being a good program to work in, i know some people who make some kick ass music with it (dmgy, if you're out there, keep it up!), but those who see it as a fucking on-stop-shop for all your music needs are just dumb.
"my stuff isnt that bad" - then where's the links mother fucker? i dont believe we've heard your non-windy music yet, TOPPLE THE TRI REPETAE!!!

I say keep the track that you have already made. Like ophecks said: it would work great as a menu track or transition track. But if you're going to do beats, make sure they are sort of tribal and energy pumping. Um... yeah... :\

Anyone who thinks that good ambient music is easy to make is quite obviously wrong and has no idea what the hell they are talking about.

Its when you add hardware into the equation with your computer to make something worth while in the end.
its like the late 90's revolution all over again, but instead of everyone being a DJ everyone is now making tunes on their comp.
