The Postal Service

This is basically my favorite band. If you have never heard
of them, they are like electronic indie. This is normally
the band I would NOT tell people about because of my guilty
pleasure to love considering them not well known, but I
think you guys are probably more capable of appreciating it
than most people. So if you havent heard them, I'd check
them out if you like beautiful well written lyrics, catchy
electonica based indie rock. Don't tell a friend.

They're alright. I like some of the 8 bit type stuff they
put in their songs.

p.s. Death Cab for Cutie, the singer of the Postal Service's
main band is better though

a few good tracks. few meaning literally 3. and a vocal line
in one of the songs rips an eels chorus, only it puts it to
greater effect i think.

a good step to either get electro kids into indy or indy
kids into electro.

electro meaning electronic.

i like postal service but mostly just the instrumental
backing, i don't like ben's voice

for electro/acoustic i much prefer hood, the notwist,
telefon tel aviv, cex...

I would agree. The Notwist and Telefon Tel Aviv are a far
more advanced version of the
electronic/rock/indie/alternative... whatever you want to
call it. But let us not forget about Múm,;probably the best
of the bunch.

much sucks

3 good songs? try fucking all of them. and i love ben's
voice, its so dreamlike, fits perfectly into their sound.
And Death Cab for Cutie is definately not better.
Well, at any rate I was just trying to consider an
incredible musical duo, sorry its not up to your elite
tastes.

jesus, do you honestly expect everyone to agree with you?
why even post a topic if your opinion is the only one that
you can accept? you should consider yourself lucky, when you
post a topic people say something negative and at least know
what they're talking about. when i post a music topic people
reply with extremely negative comments without having even
HEARD it.

they're okay I guess. I have their album, and I'm not
over-eager about it.

death cab for cutie has a new album out last week. They are
actually coming to town with Nada Surf, which I hope I can
get tickets too.

In any event, the DCFC disc "Something About Airplanes" is
amazing, their follow up, The Photo Album, was a pretty big
dissaspointment.

New album is rumored to be much better, but I haven't heard
anything from it.

The Postal Service. Catchy, but it's just a side project
with a cute gimmick, I have a hard time getting attatched to
a group like that.

which is funny, because I can, for about $.45, send a letter
to another country in about 5 days.

I mean, the fucking letter went from California, across the
country. Accros the Atlantic Ocean, across Europe, and to
Sweden, in like 5 days. For half a dollar.

How did it do that? seriously, it's fucking the best deal
ever.

and yet it takes me over a week to get a letter from someone
a few states away

it really depends on how good your local post office is

i didnt mean to come off like that, maybe I should have
asked why some of you only consider a few of their songs to
be any good. I mean, the formula is pretty much the same
throughout, and I think each of their songs have something
unique to be heard. So now that I have explained myself,
maybe you all will make an effort to explain why the rest of
their stuff, other than 3 songs, sucks. Which three songs do
you like? I agree not all of their songs are personal
favorites, but they do not suck. Britney Spears sucks.
Celine Dion sucks. Michael Bolton sucks. In this context, I
don't see how any of their stuff can be considered bad
compared to what else there is out there. I'm sorry but I
like them a lot.

some of the lyrics aren't that great tho'.

anyhoo.

DNTEL is amazing and the only song i think shows his
incerdible talents is the first. production good/okay,
singing okay/bad, this makes postal service okay...i guess.

BlatantEcho ---> The new album for Death Cab Cutie
Transatlanticism KICKS ASS. It is better than anything
they've done before, not by a small margin, but an enormous
evolution leap. The whole album flows so smoothly and all
the songs are awesome. One of my top ten albums.

I think Postal Service is great. Songs like: Natural Anthem
and Brand New Colony are stand outs for me. I agree the
collaboration on the Dntel album for the song "Dreaming Of
Evan And Chand" is better than the Postal Service
collaboration because it seems edgier/ riskier and the
lyrics are brilliant. Still, Give Up is a great album and I
had high expectations when I heard about the collaboration
and was not let down.

good to hear. I bought the photo album and had a hard time
listening to it.

They are coming to town, and I want tix. With your
recommendation, I check out the new album.

check out of theirs.

i think ben's voice is good but the lyrics are often really
bad, the production is good on some songs but not on others.
death cab is imo much better. i saw them in concert like 2
weeks ago, it was pretty good. i think their new album
isn't as good though.

state some examples of the lyrics you dont like... i think
ben writes some of the best lyrics ive ever heard.

"knuckles clenched to white as the landing gear retract for
flight
my head's a balloon inflating with the altitude"

i love their shit.

postal service is the best pop band ever!!!

offline ggloom from California (United States) on 2003-11-11 16:28 [#00946250]

the song Sleeping In has thy worst lyrics ever...the line
about JFK is lreally bad...and the message, "don't wake me
I'm better off sleeping" (I'm pretty sure those are the
exact words? might be wrong)...that's a really lame message,
boring

they suck live - it's basically a long karaoke session with
the exception of a live drumset, the female singer is ugly,
the only tracks that are somewhat innovative are Such Great
Heights, the first track, and the one w/the orchestral
samples...other then that...boring...
They've somehow managed to create generic cliche IDM indie
music before the genre was even created

i really like the album now.

it took me a while to get into it though. mostly, i didn't
care for the guy's voice at first. i thought he sang too
much like lisa loeb. very limited range. but like i said,
it grew on me and now when i listen to it, i sing along as
well.
