WOW!!!!...

Did anyone just see that programme about the BBC Radiophonic
Workshop on BBC4 ?....fucking wonderful prog; just finished
(I would have posted earlier but couldn't drag myself
away)...

The other half got a bit annoyed with me as I was naming
everyone on-screen as they appeared...I couldn't help
myself; these people played such a HUGE contribution to our
music, yet seldom get the props they deserve...

They even devoted some sadly overdue time to Delia
Derbyshire, a true pioneer, & considering the times, a
feminist icon for us nerd kids...

If I can I'll get a tape...(was surrpised not to see AFX or
AE paying their dues tho....without the workshop, I suspect
we'd live in a very different audio culture..)...

strongly recommended for everyone who likes any kind of
electronica. if thats what we're talking about.

Well, seeing as the BBC are about to open up their archives
so everything is available via the Net - fingers crossed
this'll be on online soon....

I'm pretty sure someone in P2P land will have taped/DivXed
it...if anyone spots it, let us all know, yeah...

Wendy Carlos was (well, it was when she was Walter) but no
Kraftwerk at all...

In fact, it was odd that no-one comtemporary was on there at
all...Hardly modern but StockHausen got a mention (altho
they called him Shockhausen, which made me giggle...)...

Musique Concrete got a mention, but again really just a
passing mention & no talk of IRCAM...I guess it was only an
hour long which wasn't time enough to really get too deep
into their wider place in history...(I SOOO wish it was a
series rather than a one off...)...

No idea on timescales...I believe much has been digitised
over the last few years, but the BBC is not exactly
fast-moving so it's gonna be years :( before we see real
results from this project...

Still, it's pukka they are actually doing it...the UK is
shite but the BBC is one thing we have to be proud of....

BBC4 do repeat a lot, & often reshow their progs on BBC2 so
let's hope this makes it onto there soon....

Me proudly holding up a Radiophonic Workshop record (which,
incidentally I'm learning to scratch on):

I used to scratch with that! the lazer gun shot thing is
amazing! really tight attack with plenty of decay to get
all silly with.

There's also a great 3 Volume comp of RW stuff...

On my old machine tho, so can't recall title at moment, but
SS should have it...

Yeah, it was the space sounds section that I finally learnt
to crab on :D

It's really good, my dad got it for me (l20p in library ex
catalogue clear out sale) in my early teens when I made
games in Klik and Play and he thought I could use it for
sfx. It largely got neglected till I dug it out about 2
years ago :)

Earthleakage: You're not wrong!
