Been falling in love with some older ones lately, like
Splatterhouse and Clock Tower (the SNES original released in
Japan)

Makes me want to play Eternal Darkness again.

What are your faves?

Mine are:
Resident Evil (GC)
Eternal Darkness (GC)
Clock Tower (SNES - Japan only)
Clock Tower 2 (PSOne, Clock Tower 1 here)
Silent Hill 1&2 (haven't played three yet)
Splatterhouse 2 (Genesis)

I used to like 7th guest and 11th hour

I've been looking for an XP compatible version but I can't
find one anywhere

try getting an emulator or something - try EDGE EMULATION
but i will warn you, they're very ad-heavy.

yeah, all you need is an emulator (like a game system on
your pc, most of them are compatible with all OS) and the
roms (games) are you're set.

Actually, check for an
emulator - their emulator collection is WAY better, plus
they can tell you which are good and which suck ass.

I'm not sure if you can call it horror or not but American
McGee's Alice, Undying, Resident Evil, ...that's what i've
been playing recently though.

Alone in the Dark is great, and all of its sequels (there's
even going to be an Alone in the Dark movie). Eternal
Darkness, Clive Barker's Undying, 7th Guest, 11th Hour, the
Resident Evil Games, Alice (going to be a movie based on
this one too, as well as another game by American McGee
based on The Wizard of OZ). I've never played any of the
Silent Hill games, but I've been meaning to.

I haven't played Undying yet, though I want to.

If you want a good idea of what you're in for in terms of
Silent Hill, imagine being in a pitch black hallway with
nothing but a flashlight and a radio... and the only way you
know that something is coming is random white noise coming
through on your radio... growing increasingly louder as the
enemy draws near.

heart-gripping, i tells ya! :D

it does look intense from what i've seen - it's just Carmack
working on it now right? Was Romero the one who left ID

The only game that ever scared me enough to make me stop
playing because I wasn't enjoying it is Aliens V. Predator 1
on the PC. It looks a bit dated now, but it's still
fantastic for making you jump.

Yeah...
hm... I really like scary games to.
I remember I thought 'alone in the dark' was quite scary..
atleast the title was.
I want to play some new scary games, so I'll remember this
thread.

Also one of the best PAC-adventure games of all time;
"Maniac Mansion" was quite scary. That games is so great I
shall play it through one more time when I have time
(perhaps next week! :)

could you ever get very far playing as the alien? i remember
completing it as predator, doing quite well with the marine
but i the alien one seemed hard as fuck to me.
i'm gonna install it now and see what i can do

No, I didn't get very far with the alien or the predator. I
actually got stuck really close to the start as the
predator. For some reason it was only really scary playing
as the marine... I don't know if it was because you
sympathise with a human character more or the fear of runnig
out of ammo (the other character were quite good at hand to
hand)

ceri: the scariest part for me as the marine was the way
EVERYWHERE was virtually pitch black, you'd end up with the
only source of light being your gunfire. awesome
atmospherics in that game
oddio: get soulseek :)

open a door and be blinded by white, only to see a
facehugger suddenl appear on your visor...

I waited to post a link til I found a more decent version,
but this combo will *do* anyway:

Download the english version:

from dosgames.nl

Download the Spanish version:

from http://digilander.libero.it/avvgrafiche/

--- Instructions ---

Now, unpack the englishversion to a dir. In this version
(atleast on my puter) the mouse was not enabled at start.
So extract the .exe file from the spanishversion, and
voila:
You've got yourself the englishversion but with mouse and
everything.
I think this will work (but I haven't played it through yet,
so I am not sure, otherwise
just play the game using the keyboard).

--- Remember: ----

You can use the keyboard for all commands
(use/fix/open/etc)....

And F1-F8 is also used in the game
(change character, switch the sound
on/off, save/load game, etc)

---

Hope you enjoy the game!
I'm sure I will, it's been a while since I finnished it!...

peace. / key

notes on that post:

You can use the keyboard for all commands

= Letters. E.g:

q = push w= open e = walk to
a = pull s = close d = pickup
z = give x = read c =what is

(etc, as you see where the command is located = where the
key to control the command is located on the keyboard)

I haven't played it through yet

No... but I did try it and you could save
the game and everything (using the Spanishversion .exe with
the englishversion).
And with a mouse you can do stuff a lot faster than when
only using keyboard.

I am really looking forward to playing this game! damn. It
rules.

1- Silent Hill 2- PS2 - unparalleled atmosphere, much eerier
than Silent Hill 3... I was depressed as hell afterwards
(especially after the ending I got)
2- Resident Evil 2- PS1 - I beat this game tons of times
back in '98, had a lot of fun with it. It just stands out
for some reason.
3- Resident Evil: Remake- Gamecube- most beautiful game ever
made

Yeah, Firday the 13th for NES was tough as shit, I always
used to get lost in the woods. And whenever I encountered
Jason in a cabin, I would shit myself.

okey I was just playing it for a while,
and when you encounter this text:

USE [object] with* [object]

[whenever you do something, the above
was just an example]
the -with- word is in spanish (when using the spanish
.exe).
But this is no problem, you don't even need to know
spanish.
And everything else (all the dialogue I encountered so far)
is in english. Just save bouth packed files, and you can
switch back (to the orginal english .exe) if you feel like
it.

peace! And now play the game!
