why didnt you just bid the maximum amount you were willing
to pay for it - that way if it stays under that - it's
yours

you should never miss an ebay auction - only if you dont
wanna pay that much

it's called proxy bidding

"it's called proxy bidding"

...Ah, piss off!

I know all about it man, but then you give the former
highest bidder a chance to up the ante & thats not how I
play.

Hey Toejam, didn't mean to give you the fear or anything

wow, a polite clarification to avoid offensive
misuderstanding! don't see that much around here! nice :)

and haha re: ebay. I hate people who say "just put in your
max bid and then you'll win unless the price gets too high!"
cos that's bollocks. What I'm prepared to pay is always
changing and if you leave it til the last moment you might
get away with a price much cheaper than the most you want to
pay.

Well, I am the Rambling Madman you see, sometimes I create
angles that are not perceivable by the normal human mind,
then when I read it back late at night under candle shade I
see things in a different light & re evaluate the
ramblings........ ya see xceque :D

if the item is at $100 with ten seconds to go - and your max
bid is set at $200 - anywhere UP to $200 the item is yours -
meaning if the next highest bid is $110 - you get it for
$110.50 - much less than $200

follow me?

alright then ill make it even easier

if you see an item you want put your max bid down - THE MAX
YOU WOULD PAY FOR IT

so if you lose - who cares - its too expensive

if you win - great - fuck - yippee double dutch

if you lose the same item will be posted again at some point
- its ebay

Yes but by proxy bidding, you're giving the chance to all
kinds of morons to drive the price way up closer to your
max. Say the item was at $100 as a minimum bid. you proxy
bid $200 earlier. Someone wants it, they keep piling up the
bids until it reaches $180. You win. Yay. Now, let's say
you wait until the end. This same chump makes the first
bid. Bids $115. No one else is bidding, he gets all
excited, he's watching, then BAM auction is over and you are
the winning bidder at $116. You just saved yourself $64.
What you have to understand is the psychology of ebay.
Sure, you may say your maximum is $150 or whatever, but a
bidding war is a competition like anything else, and people
will do whatever it takes, within reason, to win. Including
paying more than they thought they wanted to.

Any questions?

I thought the rule was, you bid twice as much as you think
it's worth & then the seller discounts half the price at the
end :/
