Its a great album, very electro/IDM sounding mixed with
their own grand operatic style. Laibach are collaborating
with Umek on this on quite a few songs.

You can listen to it here

oh, hi red! , yeah i remember flea liking them as well,
actually you two were one of the few people knowing laibach
and as i understand they're more of a live band, so i just
might go see them as they're having some special gig in my
town (as they're from here) with some guests, could be
nice...
they'll tour all around the world in the next year so
perhaps you'll get a chance to see them there

I just played some Beatles covers by them yesterday. Some
were great and some were just terrible, but maybe that was
the whole point :)

Is that the Let It Be album? Their version of Sympathy for
the Devil by the Rolling Stones is worth a hear.

Shame as it is, Laibach are now nothing but a novelty act
that takes itself far too seriously. Nato, Jesus Christ
Superstar, all a load of old toss, only good for a bit of a
laugh. The new effort is not much better.
Come back the early days, when Laibach were truly one of the
most crushing industrial bands of their age. If you want to
hear Laibach at their best....

NOVA AKROPOLA
KRST POD TRIGLAVOM - BAPTISM
LJUBLJANA - ZAGREB - BEOGRAD
SLOVENSKA AKROPOLA
LAIBACH
KAPITAL

I own all of these albums, they are moving along with time
assimulating new technology. They started playing
electronics earlier than anyone with Kapital which is full
of breaks and hip hop elements, long before anyone other
than Meat Beat Manifesto used them. I find the vocals, the
lyrics and the operatic grandeur just as vital as the albums
you have mentioned - it hasnt left my CD player and you left
out some brilliant efforts such as Macbeth and Opus dei.

With Nato, Jesus Christ Superstar they are taking on
different muscial genres like techno and industrial metal in
these cases and giving their very own Laibach twist. I dont
find their music a novelty at all infact if you have a
problem with satire you will find that you will have a
problem with 90% of industrial music, people like Foteus,
Ministry, Negativeland etc based their careers on it.

Fair enough, if a second rate euro-techno cover version of
Final Countdown floats your boat, then go for it. Personally
I can't take it very seriously.

And I have to take issue with your statement saying Laibach
were the first using electronics, breaks and hip-hop with
the release of Kapital! That album was released in 1992! I
could start listing artists using these styles 15, 20 years
before Kapital, but I'd be here all day.....

I was referring to Industrial music, other than Meat Beat
Manifesto, they were the first ones to use breaks.

About Nato, come on get over it there is a lot more to the
album than Final Countdown, what about their cover of Dogs
of War or the song WAR whats it good for, yeah followed by a
roll call of all the big corporations that benefit from it,
not as shallow as you would think. Nato was a prophetic
album released on the eve of the total cocking up of war in
Yugosalivia by guess who NATO. If you see it in this light
even the song you are decrying the Final Countdown makes
perfect sense.

Maybe they are just not the band for you, dont tell me you
like the fake emoting twaddle industrial like Wumpscut.

No, I'm not really into any contemporary industrial bands.
Give me early Laibach, Throbbing Gristle, SPK any day. I
also love Skinny Puppy and early Front Line Assembly.

We'll have to agree to differ on the new Laibach I'm afraid,
I just can't get into it...

i've gotta say, like with most nitzer ebb and einsturzende
neubatten, the vocals just aren't doin' it for me. thanks
for posting it anyway, i like laibach for what they do, not
so much their music in itself.

perhaps someone would be interested in a book about laibach
that just got out this days, its written by some enlish
author...i'll look for the title when i get home

i bought WAT mainly because i liked that tanz mit laibach
single, but it kind of gets boring after 3 or 4 tracks, its
too straight album for my likings, but they were this way
almost all their career so i guess their fans will like
it...
