What album should I buy?

Ok, tomorrow is pay day and I want to get something
interesting... could you all suggest some cds, any kind,
that I could buy? The only condition is that they not be TOO
obscure... cause I live in a small town, and it's sometimes
hard to get cds by highly unknown artists...

but you always recommend rap... and you know my stance on
rap! ;)

actually, I'm slowly appreciating rap more and more as the
days go by, but it's still very far from my favorite style
of vocal...

i don't always recommend you hip-hop. for instance, you
should get Labradford's "La Media Naranja" and the new Amon
Tobin "Collaborations & Remixes" EP..

funkmaster,.. seriously, from a fellow lover of the
avalanches, saint germain, and underworld, I say you should
get "ronny jordan - brighter day"

it's got some really wicked nice stuff on it, almost like a
completely acoustic saint germain,

and if you haven't got it yet, get fluke - oto (or) risotto"
they're both fucking awesome, and kinda "underworld" like

If you haven't heard Do Make Say Think, do yourself that
huge favor.
If you want to follow Tits' advice and get some Labradford,
Mi Media Naranja is great, but E Luxo So is IMO their best.

offline atgmartin from DeathMallMegaComplexville (United States) on 2003-09-11 06:08 [#00858363]

And if you like the sound of cello, buy Esmerine.
Absolutely stunning.

And if you want some floor shaking dnb, check out Scorn -
Plan B. If you can't find that, check out their older
stuff, Gyral and on, which is more like evil ambient dub,
again with deep bass.

I'm seeing Mogwai tomorrow night and possibly Saturday as
well! Can't wait...

I recommend Mogwai too, Funk. I got into them with Come on
Die Young, and the new one is absolutely great too. Hey,
get the new one (Happy Songs for Happy People) and it comes
with a demo version of Cubase SX and individual tracks from
one of the songs that you can mix yourself!

Get any of the Ninja Tunes record label
compilations... they're all good. A great way to discover
new artists you like too.

then he can REALLY be a funk master!!!!

those are the 2 albums i recommended to him the highest:
come on die young and happy songs for happy people. next i'd
recommend mowai young team, ep+2 (or ep+6 for a few $ more),
rock action, my father my king, and ten rapid. the rest is
for rabid fans only IMO.

yea i bought my cousin who kinda dropped out of the
electronica scene a few years ago the xen cuts comp and he
loved it, said it was excellent and he preferred the jazzier
stuff to the brit-hop (tho he liked a bit of it).

That really covers just about all their material. EP+6
contains the tracks from 4Satin and No Education = No
Future, I think. Maybe there are a couple of splits.
MOGWAI!!!!

actually Weather Report sounds interesting... I've always
been interested in them, so I might as well get one of their
albums... and David Bowie as well... I don't own anything by
him, and I need to get something...

go to this website, select Opeth, 'show tracks' and listen
to 'Hope Leaves'... i'm not sure but i think you can stream
the entire song, and it loads pretty fast!

just don't be put down by the fact it's a metal band,
listen to it before if you have time - seriously, this track
(and all of their latest album) is/are anything but
it. : )
