Search Google for:

sampling+legalities

or

sampling+"legal issues"

i think it largely depends on how much of it you are
distributing.

If u sample from any copyrighted work(TV,Film,Music). If u
release your trak and gain from it financially you can be
sued by the owner. There are certain loop holes tho. If a
trak has been released on a compilation over 30years ago
then ive heard it becomes public access. It would probably
cost u pennies to clear a sample unless it is a very large
loop, a lot of companies will let u off if u arent blatantly
ripping off the original artist's ideas. I know he is a big
sellout but fatboy slim doesnt pay for 90% of his samples,
he just mangles them up through processors until they are
almost unrecognisable. Bottom line is, u only have to worry
if u r gonna be doin' big league distribution on it, giving
them to your mates or doin' cheeky bootlegs will be fine.
HOPE THIS HELPS I KNOW IVE GONE ON A BIT. :)
