Ditto. Unlikely I'll be able to afford one for about 2 years
though :/ patience, patience...

Is it purely from a 'carry around' point of view, that you
guys want laptops.....because otherwise I'd never buy one
for use at home

yeah iwant one not for home but for live shows,
transportability is the bonus and also i don't want to be
stuckbehind a big screen.

Several reasons-

1) So I can make music on something other than my knackered
old G3 outside when it's too sunny to be indoors.

2) So I can take a PC on holiday with me. I hate being away
from music software for more than a couple of days.
Especially if I get an idea for a trakc whilst I'm away.

3) Playing live will not be such a hassle to set up.

4) It would become worth buying a Stanton Final Scrath for
DJing- currently it'd be too much aggro to take my PC to a
gig with me.

5) Much more conveniant for LAN parties.

A PC would be the last thing in my suitcase when I go on
holidays! :P

i have a HP Celeron 2.2 gHz, 500 mb RAM. It's more than
enough for making music i reckon. Traktor 2 is a winner on
laptops, but you need a soundcard with lotsa outputs.

well, a laptop is good if you're doing lots of gigs...it's
definately more portable than a pc.

Just bought an IBM T40 for close to 2000$US

I'm now totally broke as a result. But insanely happy,
making music outdoors with 5 solid hours of battery life
with USB keyboard.

I'm getting an Echo Indigo DJ card with ASIO and two 1/8
inch stereo outs so I can DJ with it, and just sample on my
main rig in my room.

If you just want power/specs, get a Dell or something
similar... I got the IBM for reliability since I work on
computers and need it for that too. Toshibas are very good,
so are Acer from what I've heard, I just can't deal with the
extra weight.

It's HARD buying a laptop, lots to look at, lots of
confusing marketing practices. You'll probably end up paying
around 3-400$ more on the laptop than you wanted.

Check fatwallet.com and anandtech.com in the forums to see
when hot deals pop up
