do they just let a minidisc play or a sequencer run or do
they actually play their stuff at live shows? (for example
BoC, Aphex)

Seems to vary from artist to artist.

I've seen quite a few people like ovuca/astrobotnia, bogdan,
hrvatski, mu-ziq who just use laptops. Id guess with them
they are playing sequences but tweaking them in real-time.

From what I remember of BoC they had loads of equipment ie
keyboards, samplers etc so I guess they are more "live".

Aphex seems to do lots of sets with decks and a laptop.

AE, i read somewhere they do various types of live shows,
sometimes full-on live with keyboards etc, sometimes using
laptops.

Squarepusher uses a laptop with lots of extra gear like fx
boxs and midi controllers, and of course his bass guitar.

I've seen ae twice, and they remain hidden in the darkness,
but I remember seeing a couple of Apple laptops, and some
virtual analog gear. And little pcket flashlights.

In early 90s Ae were in Moscow. :)
Unfortunately they have remained unnoticed and
misunderstood.. :( They sounded really weird for usual
moscow people, like UFO pilots from another planet!

i havent seen ae live yet, but from what i've heard and read
they're not that good
apperantly they're quite boring and non imaginative

well, i'll have to check that for myself to know
perhaps i'll see gescom live later in september - that might
help...

depends what you are expecting really.

last time i say em was on the confield tour at brixton
academy. its quite hard to explain what they were like, but
they created a very dark atmosphere. i havent heard
confield, but my mate who has it said none of what they
played was off the album, except for a few sounds here and
there. the tracks were consatntly changing and all went on
for about 10 mins. you couldnt dance to any of it, though
some people tried, but it was far from "non imaginative".

i've never seen one of aphex's "live" shows, where hes
playing just his own stuff, but i've seen him do the
dj/laptop thing quite a few times and its (nearly) always
superb, real hi-energy music to get people dancing.

Squarepusher apparently has lots of "live" elements. When i
saw him this year, i believe he also had an autotuner or
something, but he used it sparcely. I think this, because
under one track he grabbed his mic, and said something while
tweaking something. I've never really heard anything like
it, but he used it way to little.
