The Sound of Nothing..

After having spent all morning clearing some unwanted junk
out of my house, I had had my lunch, turned the TV off...and
just sat there in the armchair.....and I listened.
Nothing....not a thing.........I sat there for 10 mins or
so, wonderfull.

Anyone relate to this?

All I hear is police sirens and the bleating of townhill
hairsprayed tracksuited slags.

too loud around me i like to turn this baby up full volume
on my headphones, and just let my mind drift.

I could be in total silence if I closed Winamp... and killed
my family.

actually... true silence is impossible... unless you are
deaf

john cage actually was asked to visit this chamber that was
supposed to be 100% sound proof. no sound what so ever.

but he reported hearing a very low pulse, and a very high
eeeeee

it was of course his heart beat, and his spin/brain
transfering electircal signals

at least, thats what i heard

better yet...kill yourself. then you'll have COMPLETE
silence, or the sounds of your horrible doom in hell. 50/50
chance.

in silence, thinking is very easy, but only on one plain.

I can think about one thing for an hour, no matter how
boring, if it is queit.

Behind me,
Grace of falling snow
cover up, everything you know
come save me from this awful sound
of nothing.........

It was probably tinnitus, the old bugger

I often sit in silence with just the voices in my head
telling me to do things. It is really quite relaxing. I
often sit in silence for at least an hour, helps me get
things straight in my brain. The silence is usually
followed by loud sounds though.

there's not too many moments of silence where i live due to
train stations and their blaring horns and the fact i live
right near an airport and i swear to god my house is
directly aligned with the runway, so all planes are always
DIRECTLY over us with nice sonic booms accompanying them.
but after a nice heavy texas storm, it's total silence - and
it is beautiful.

I think you're talking about anechoic chambers.

nothing is a contradiction in terms cos, as nacmat
said, nothing does not exist. So therefore if it doesn't
exist that clearly is nothing (since it doesn't exist!). Yet
nothing doesn't exist

Silence doesn't exsist. An anechoic chamber cuts of all
outside sound, but when no sound is present you can hear
your body working and moving around.
