It's going slooooow, thanks for asking, because my crappy
keyboard recently died completely on me... Waiting for some
money right now to buy me a proper midi thingy with knobs
and all.

that's too bad - but if it makes you feel any better, i had
a soundcard crash on me a while back so i had to go silent
for a while, but when i came back, i wrote some stellar
material. Sometimes a break in music is essential for
growth. Inspiration is like a plant - its nutrients must be
balanced, and you can't overwater it.

WHOOHOO MAX FOR WINDOWS! That is sick, I can't believe they
actually released it, thought it was a myth. Now Mac and PC
are on a much more equal footing for music making.
Excellent.

I found this German online shop that has pretty good deals.
Example: I ordered an ESI 128 channel USB MIDI adapter for
2400 Swedish Krona. It's 4000 in stores here (www.jam.se). I
also ordered a Lexicon MPX-1 reverb/fx unit for 7700 SEK.
The list price in stores is like 12000+.

www.thomann.de (it has a Swedish section with prices incl.
tax)

Yes, it is. Haven't worked with Reaktor that much, but I
think Max/MSP is more, ehm, basic.

"but I think Max/MSP is more, ehm, basic. "

well, it?s bit more "minimal" in colours and design, but
then again much more powerful in terms of possiblities -
with max/msp you can do everything you can possibly
imagine....(and more) Too bad pc users can do it too now...
;P

Monoid: almost, but for the mac there are several of
"standalone" appz (made with max/msp) who don?t require that
much....just some time and some playfulness :)

Max is a lower level programming environment then Reaktor
(more access to smaller, more basic pieces, more flexible).
Reaktor is better for new users and Max is better if you
have a little more knowledge. Autechre disses Reaktor and
praises Max because of it's customizability. Aphex also
uses it. If you're someone who's gotten pretty into Reaktor
and is hitting walls then adding Max to your toolkit might
be a good move. Super Collider is another one, although
currently Mac only I think.

many...

super collider is the REAL nerd-hardcore...... a text-based
environment for making music! (mac only and freeware and
isn?t beng developed anymore but it?s widely used by the
more NOT-trance oriented geeks outthere ;)

I want to learn SC, my friend was able to make some
interesting generative shit in it pretty quickly after going
through the tutorials. There are people who make insane
shit in SC, like Timeblind. He's developed a neural network
based generative music environment for live improvisation.
And he rocks shit on it live playing everything from digi
swamp dancehall to gabber tek breaks. He actually has a lot
of SC code and libraries on his website:
