NIN - The Fragile

Bought this album yesterday and I love it, especially "the
great below", "just like you imagined", "we're in this
together", "la mer" etc.

This is probably a lame topic but I wanted to share this :)

Good tracks indeed

I prefer left (CD1) over right (CD2) though

what about "into the void" and "please" ?

it's my favourite album ever for several years now, this
one. i don't listen to it every often though... but in the
night for concentrate listening, especially when you're in a
frustrated mood at first it's bliss : )
(on a casual 'background' listening it doesn't work.)

'Somewhat Damaged' works like a catharsis, then 'The Day The
Word Went Away' brings you back to peace, and then 'The
Frail' is the beauty and little sadness afterwards. then
there is all the rest of the album - not one track i skip
(though 'Starfuckers inc.' is quite commercial and out of
place...).

what do you think about the tracks I mentioned?

I agree with you, this album is best out loud when feeling
sad/angry/frustrated :)

what do you think about the tracks I mentioned?

i love them ^^
and the ones Dael mentioned too.

one funny thing also with this album, is that it's the only
place 'The Day The World Went Away' really fits in my
opinion... it's a great song within The Fragile, but when
listened alone, or in another album (like on the live, And
All That Could Have Been) it lacks effect.

distorted about this one...got sick over the weak ass mixes
on TFA.

but i feel that one can tell that he wrote this track apart
form the rest.

havent listened to the abulm in LONG time, but just like
you imagined is the shit!

cd left(1) is better, it flows together more but its a shame
since theyres some awesome stuff on cd right(2) but
starfuckers and a few other tracks ruin the flow and the
overall excellence.

somewhat damaged was my theme song for a good long time. the
fragile is a wonderful album. i wonder what mr. reznor is up
to these days...hopefully it won't be another 4 years or
something until his next release (it was something like 6
years between the downward spiral and this guy, right?
maybe?)

yeah, this album is awesome. i like cd2 more than cd1,
though. the remix album, "Things Falling Apart" is also
really excellent. it's at least as good as The Fragile, i
think.

The Fragile is an amazing piece of art and music in one. I
can't choose one disc over the other, though. "The Way Out
is Through" is one of the best openers ever. "The Big Come
Down" was always a favorite of mine. "Looking Forward to
Joining You, Finally" is amazing as well. The instrumentals
meld perfectly with the well-known ballads. "Pilgrimage" is
a godly piece of music. This album kicks the shit out of
any other album when you compare.
I see why Trent took 6 years to make it. He pours his
entire soul and aura into the albums he makes. "Things
Falling Apart" was okay, but would have been better with a
remix of "The Big Come Down" or "La Mer". I did like "The
Frail (version)" and "The Great Collapse". This post is too
long, I could talk all day about The Fragile, so I'll stop.

i didn't mean to put down The Fragile - i really love both
discs. i just think the second one is absolutely perfect,
whereas the first has a couple of weaker songs. i think the
only weak song on TFA is that ridiculous dance/rave-sounding
mix of Starfuckers. the rest of it is perfect as well.

how about the live dvd? that rules!

instrumental.

I disagree, especially in songs like "The great below" I
think that the vocals greatly contribute to the overall
feeling/atmosphere of the song.

I donno. Every time I listen to NIN, I can't help but feel
it too teenage-angst/8-years-too-late kinda deal.

depends what you listen to and when...

if you're listening to the early stuff, nowadays it would
seem like that.

there's no way that you can say The Fragile is teen-angsty
stuff.

k you ppl are asking for news about future nin work...

"the lathe of heaven" is the rumored new release tittle

drunk now...will post more later

and i see that those are the wood shavings from the
aforementioned "lathe of heaven"

i'm in two minds about the new stuff

i've followed NIN for a while now, and part of me thinks
that it's gonna be the bomb of an album because i once read
somewhere that he said he's going back to the roots - hardly
any use of guitars, mainly synth stuff

but then i'm thinking...what the fucks the deal with the
website, and all this mystery about it?

that is a big indicator of commercialisation

i really hope i'm wrong about that last part, Reznor is a
genius, and it would be a shame if he sold out

yes, it was supposed to come out this fall.

a lathe is like one of those tools where you put like wood
or metal in a vice, and carve it with a spinning blade or
something like that....

Pilgrimage is insane when listened to on full blast with
both tweeters up to your ears. You can hear every little
subliminal message there is. If you take every NIN album,
and put it on full blast, put the tweeters next to your
ears, you can hear some crazy crazy stuff!!!

to be honest i haven't seen it, but it does seem a bit
commercial....

NIN was forged in his live shows, and if he was truely
integritous (is that a word??) he would not have released a
video of his live show....the whole point of going to see
him is that it's unique - something you can't buy and
possess on your cd shelf
