What does someone have to do orr be to gain yourr respect?

When you arre at school it seems to be yourr sporting
prowess that gains you rrespect, as you get olderr it shifts
to how cleverr a perrson is and you think fuck why did I
look up to that guy who could thrrow betterr than otherr
people.
Is intelligence not verry similarr, not everryone can be
cleverr some people are just gifted.
Do you rrespect the rroad cleanerr as much as the doctorr?

Job positions dont usually affect my respect for someone.
There are a lot of cool people out there with shitty jobs.

I think someone has to be or have someting special, unique.
(a talent, sense of humour, interesting things to tell,
etc...)
He/She has to be different from other people, for a positive
reason.
I allways respect strong personalities, because they are who
they are and don't give a fuck about what other people
think.

I respect people who respect others... meaning, I respect
people who are genuinely nice to me, and others... those who
I see never judge people based on meaningless things like
appearance and stuff...

You get respect from having traits that other people admire.
It varies from person to person.

Open-mindedness gets my respect. I don't care what the
opinions amount to as long as there can be discussion. Two
way conversation, as it were.

someone can earn my respect in many different ways.

being honest, being generous, being self-sacrificing, ect...

Funk summed it up nicely.

I can easily respect a garbage man more than a CEO of a huge
company if the CEO flips me off and the garbage guy says
hi.

I think respect for all people is important, but after that,
I respect how hard a person works, integrety and how much
they gossip.

You get zero respect from me if you gossip at all about
others

I make a point of showing deference to everyone upon first
meeting them, that can be erroded over time if they're a git
though... Respect on the other hand has to be earnt. I have
no specific criteria for respect, I respect a lot of people
who hold very different views to me or even do things I
disapprove of. I think it'd be hard for me to quantify it,
but it's more about not being an arsehole than what
you do. I try not to base it on things like altruistic acts
as I know a lot of people do them and just keep it quiet to
avoid being seen as vulgar.
