Cool Anime?

OK, so I've never watched any Japanese style anime other
than Astroboy and Voltron. Can anyone recommend anything in
the genre that is particularly cool? I've heard Akira is
one of the best examples.

the other day I got ninja scroll, akira, and ghost in the
shell for $40 AUS (about $20 US I'm guessing) as part of a
"movies that inspired animatrix" pack, if you don't own
these movies and you see this pack around, I suggest you get
it

the animatrix is varied,

I liked about half of them (they are several short
animations,.. nine I think)

the one that deals with a "glitchy" haunted house is the
best one I reckon, followed closely by the one about the
skateboarding kid

the preview looks a lot like evangelion... i like the looks
of it, looks more disturbing than evangelion, which would be
cool... although end of evangelion was truly weird... didnt
get that

yeah, it's nice and disturbing, has a really cool atmosphere
to it,.. and *most* of the people in it are very normal,
which adds to the realism of it, and makes the loopy
characters seem a lot loopier

I'd love to chat, but I just worked 20 hours and I'm
knackered, night everyone!
