This still needs a bit of polish, so any criticism is
welcome.

shit man, i loved the ninja gaiden... Im sure i'll love
this...

I've been so obsessed lately with the old school nintendo
tunes.

remember though, it's not totally complete yet. this is sort
of a second draft. so all criticism is appreciated.

shit man, i'd love to put these on vinyl and spin em in my
upcoming set...

all i want from your contra remix is faster faster faster !
;0

yeah, the drums could be a bit faster, couldn't they? it's
just that i don't know if i should compromise the original
melody for the sake of speed... might not hurt though.

btw, i just recorded some Megaman 2, and some maniac
mansion...

i was gonna say the same thing... i was wondering how to get
it faster without losing that old grade 6 flavour.

more complexity within each bar?i dunno

Haha, awesome, I actually have a lot of suggestions but I
would have to be sitting there listening to it w/ you to
make them.

OK one main thing, the best part of the contra melody is
when the tune goes up after that bit, fuck its hard to
describe, whell here -- it's a few seconds long, it happens
at... :51, again at :57, 1:40, 1:47, 3:02, 3:08Thanks for
bringing back the past man.
That needs to be most pronounced, its the part where I go
hell yeah when I listen to the theme, so make it louder, put
a cool effect or reverb on it one time. Blow it out.

Thanks for reviving the past man

thanks you xanatos!

i've actually accented those parts... funny you should
mention. i also bumped the bpm up to 180! it is now a much
better remix, and a good jungle tune as well.

RIGHT CLICK AND SAVE TARGET AS for CONTRA JUNGLE REMIX!

by the way, the intro is meant to be noisy.... so don't
overreact when you hear it. some people seem to have been
rather offended by it.

Really nice :D

I dunno about the distortion it made the track sound a
little messy in places, but not as though it was
intentional. I personally would like the track to be
cleaner sounding with some clean effects placed on it, but
that is just because I am a sucker for old game music :D

offline Oddioblender from Fort Worth, TX (United States) on 2003-07-31 17:57 [#00802943]
Points: 9601 Status: Lurker

thank you! yeah, i might ditch the distortion, but i want to
keep the one distorted fill that sounded good... the one
that sounds like a guitar.

offline Oddioblender from Fort Worth, TX (United States) on 2003-07-31 17:57 [#00802945]
Points: 9601 Status: Lurker

you should check out the Ninja Gaiden mix then, that one has
a cleaner melody.

Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

Yep I prefer the ninja gaiden mix. In any case you can't
really go wrong with old game melodies and good drum beats.
Some nice variation in there too, good work :D

hoooo. quality. ;]

i enjoyed that a lot. good stuff. but yeah, the distortion
seems a bit much almost. i dunno. all in all an effort
worthy of praise. heh. cheers (as all these european fruits
in here would say). =]

ecnadniarb: glad you liked it! i'll probably put some polish
on that contra remix. thank you for the good work. the
variations took for-fucking-ever cause i did them on
microsoft sound recorder.

ambsace: thank you as well! yeah, i'm probably going to redo
the track tonight w/o the distortion -- you should check out
the ninja gaiden mix.. everyone has liked it so far!

well i'll be back in a while with the third (and hopefully
final) version of the track. plus i need to call my g/f.

*bows* glad you enjoy! i'm uploading my third version of the
contra remix now - the distortion is out, and is replaced in
most cases by a couple of more drum variants. i'll tell you
when it's finished.

yes i thought it was better too. i've noticed i'm taking a
lot more time to develop my tracks lately. it's a good
change for me. anyways, i'm glad you enjoyed.

COMING SOON:
Megaman 2 Title
Castlevania Stage 1
Metalgear
Donkey Kong

It is a bit better, but now it sounds odd. Like too much
reverb or something, everything is too seperated...it is
like hearing the track through someone elses headphone
leakage. There needs to be something in the fore of the
track, ideally the melody. It gets better about 2:55 until
the end of the track. :P

Shit I didn't realise you had only encoded it at 80kbps,
that would explain the sound problems. :D

I would stay away from the game MIDI files now, try to
develop your own melodies instead, it is a hell of a lot
more challenging and rewarding at the end of the day. :D
