Brian Eno ! The Welsh Wizard ! Produced Talking Heads,
couple of U2 albums - as well as his fantastic array of
Ambient Albums ! Was in Roxy Music, too

well... can't now =(
but I can check it out this autumn.
Or is buying one of his albums any risky, like he has made
bouth bad/good stuff?
Can you describe his ambient + recommend your fav, and what
most consider to be his best work?

That'll keep you going, and you'll love it !

well... that's kinda what I meant with the buying part - I
can't download any until this autumn... so if I buy - it has
to be good... more like:
if it is that good - I need to buy it!

I am confused over what I mean

oh, OK - buy any of the five I listed ! The first two aren't
ambient - get Apollo: Atmospheres and Landscapes, I guess.

...it's taken me a while to find something that could move
me like S.A.W.2 does, but I think I've finally found it in
brians ambient work ,
If I ever met him, I could definitely say
"Mr Eno your ambience is phenomenal"

i love brian eno. i can listen to music for airports over
and over again and never get sick of it - it's so beautiful.

his productions for talking heads were quite nice too. he
also played keyboard for genesis for a while.

i love writing eno-style ambient, because it's very
relaxing. but no one else seems to like it. :-Z

YAY! I agree!
finally. :)
brian eno is amazing, he's the ultimate ambient creator. All
of you who make ambient stuff should be thankful for him,
he's the one who invented it.

Eno didn't invent ambient music! He only defined the term.

You can look back to Debussy and Satie for inspiration.

Shops created ambient music sections after Brian Eno made
Another Green World.

Which is a good place to start, Eno-wise, since it contains
both ambient and non-ambient stuff

Another Green World IS a good album, but for me, it's
missing something. I just heard Taking Tiger Mountain (by
Strategy) for the first time last night. Another of his
early 'pop' albums. Some fine tracks on there - need to
listen to it a few more times to get the full flavour tho,
obviously.

In my town, there is a raincoat under a tree
In the sky, there is a cloud containing the sea
In the sea, there is a whale without any eyes
In the whale, there is a man without his raincoat

A fantastic album.

talking about sea shores, there's a sculpture at the sea
wall near me thats like giant organ pipes that go down to
the bottom of the sea wall, and when the tide is in it makes
musical notes on the pipes, most of it's pretty random, but
sometimes it hit's some eerie beautiful notes

the fact that he was in roxy music (a very shitty and cheesy
band, just listen to the album avalon and tell me its
good...try it) detracts a lot from his overall status but
his ambient albums are great.

He left Roxy Music after only two albums, in 1973. I don't
you can hold them against him in any way. As soon as he
left, they started going downhill.

It's from "Mother Whale Eyeless" on the album "Taking Tiger
Mountain (By Strategy)"

Roger Eno is also quite good. His album with Kate St John,
the Familiar, is lovely :)

I've got a couple of his LPs: Another Green World and My
Life In The Bush Of Ghosts. Despite great critical praise
for the second one, I find it quite dull really. Another
Green World was okay, with some good stuff, but a lot of it
was distinctly silly. 'Ending: An Ascent', though, is
brilliant.

I was quite disappointed with his Byrne collaboration - I
much prefer the one he did with Cale - Wrong Way Up - far
superior in my opinion. you wanna hear byrne and eno --
listen to talking heads albums #2 and #3

Brian Eno played in Genesis? When would this have been? Tony
Banks played keyboards in genesis, for their whole run I
believe... I have all the early PEter Gabriel albums, and
it's all Tony Banks, and I believe it was all Tony Banks
with Phil Collins leading... guess it doesn't matter really,
but I was a huge Genesis fan and never knew this!

ok, so I have two Eno albums... tell me, what is My Life in
the Bush of Ghosts like? I've heard it's more world music
like... which intrigues me to say the least... I'm very
interested in world music, and wonder what people here think
of that album...

also, I'm very interested in hearing Ambient 3... I've never
seen it around, and have only read about it, but it sounds
interesting... lots of string instrumental ambient music on
there...
