Does anyone know where one would possibly locate certain
songs con just vocals? Like a backwards karaoke? Is there a
certain technical term? or a program that can just cut out
vocals?

it's called an a-capella, you can find em on things like
soulseek and kazaa

I've searched acapella on slsk before, but didn't get very
much at all

certain songs have acapella versions on 12" singles. this is
largely limited to hip-hop and r&b, genres you may be
completely uninterested in (i don't know). however, some pop
artists occasionally release acapella versions too. bjork,
if you want to say she's pop, has an acapella mix of "hidden
place" as a b-side, and that's what ketel used to make his
remix (it's not an official one). madonna has some acapellas
out there, etc. and then of course there is true acapella
music (choruses without any instrumental backing). so you
have some choices but it's a little limited.

you can make your own acapella mix of a song by using
software to change the EQ around, filtering out some of the
bassier stuff to obtain the vocals (doesn't work for low
voices i guess). back to bjork again, there are some decent
acapella mp3's done this way floating around, but you can
still hear some of the instruments (the higher range stuff
like celestes). but it's better than nothing!

Yeah, I've thought of EQing things, and I've got some
supposedly vocal-removing programs - I'm very lazy however
