Without going into it a great deal, there has been a lot of
discussion (especially with the release of smojphace) that
Richard is ripping off the fans. As in Smojphace was a junk
release just to prove that his fans will buy just about
anything that he'd put out.

What is you take on this? Do you agree/disagree? Do you
think smojphace was made for our (fans) mockery?

I am really not so sure about this belief. Why would Richard
mock his loyalists? I think that he is just trying out new
things. Being innovative instead of rehashing the same ol`
same ol`.

Just a tip. If you want to provoke a thoughtful debate,
leave out your opinion on your first post.

Otherwise these topics tend to turn into a big love-in of
people agreeing with the original post.

But to answer the question, I don't think he's taking the
fans for a ride. He's a bit of a prankster but I don't think
he'd go that far.

I'm not going to buy this release. If the B side were an
instrumental of the A side I probably would have, though.

he's taking us for a ride (imo), but wooooo! what a
rip-roaring ride of insanity it is! yeah! :shrill, high
pitched scream: *catcall*, etc..

and what was that about "fuck off trainspotters" being aimed
at us or collectors? I read something somewhere where it
said that etched on the side (?) it said "fuck off
trainspotters". Later on in the thread there was talk about
how that might have been aimed at obsessive fans?

I tend to think of that release as a one track EP and the
other tracks are something that needs decoding or ignoring
or whatever you fancy. If you think of it as a one track EP
it doesn't seem such a waste. Unless you you don't like the
one track of course. But I like it.
The other two tracks contain some interesting sounds in
occasional places, but I think that's just just serendipity
and the second one is better than the first, probably cos
it's over sooner :D

I think he'd definitely go as far as to put piss-take tracks
on his releases, but I don't think he'd put out a release
that was entirely a pisstake. If I was in his
position I'd do something similar for sure just cos it'd
give me a laugh. But that's just me.

so to talk about smoj

its rude as stuff. my favourite thing of his yet. just the
instrumental idea of it.. ive said that before..

you can look at it cynically, and say that possibly it is an
attention seeking thing.. but what music isnt in a way?

so no im not so harsh as to bag aphex as i might sound.

i guess im bent on a live sound :D its been the best fun
doing this with ryan, hopefully well pull one more jam
before he goes to euro..

I really like the first track. It would be cool to see RDJ
do an album that is dub mixed with his classic AFX style. I
would like to see where that goes.

Is there more to come form this guy? Or do we have to wait
1,000,000 years?

I think Smoj was perfectly timed!
Think about this...
26 Mixes for Cash was quite an accessable release - I have
heard quite a few (pseudo anti)fashionable indie studenty
types talking about it as if they'd been listening to RJ
from day one - So - Obviously, after such an accessable
release he goes out and does something completely the
opposite.
I think RJ's managed what so few have in any scene - And
that is to become HUGELY successful, yet never accessable
enough for the masses of tragically unhip indie types to
latch on to him - Which is perfect!
Also, he's got everyone talking again, fueling his fire - It
doesn't matter what you thought of this release, EVERYONE's
going to be waiting with baited breath to see what he does
next...

tracks 2 and 3 are (digital) wee
track 1 is brilliant, especially in the morning.

Well I'm sure they'll be some new trend or take on things
soon by Aphex. Things evolve all the time.
