who do you find to be the most talented and/or complex
electronic percussive-sound maker?
post your opinion below.

Best goes to Autechre, as there beats are really original,
also Mr Jenkinson

no pun intended

squarepusher its more variety than one moment
he does avant gaurde (cant spell) jazz to hard fck up beats

offline slint on 2003-07-19 04:53 [#00785953]

squarepusher.
his beats are very complex but still in an intellegible way.

offline joakimlinden from Skövde (Sweden) on 2003-07-19 04:54 [#00785954]
Points: 462 Status: Regular

Aphex, to me at least, seems to have more control of beats -
they are not sounding too random while being very complex.
Inkey$ or "Complex Mathematical Equation" are good examples,
as well as Bucephalus Bouncing Ball.

offline joakimlinden from Skövde (Sweden) on 2003-07-19 04:55 [#00785957]

...but Autechre probably has the "coolest" sounding beats.

offline Riccardo from somewhere beyond the ultraworl on 2003-07-19 04:56 [#00785958]

it depends on the label and on the genre
on warp: Ae
on rephlex:ovuca
on ninja tune:Amon tobin

but the greatest for me in this moment is dorine muraille's
mani released on fat cat. brilliant!!

squarepusher and afx - most technical and varied

snares has awesome beats - but they never really amaze me
with originality

oh - and for bck in the day - mike paradinas - he
practically invented drill with his mad sliced breaks on
Brace Yourself

now that i think of it... i vote mike p. for his revolutions
in the way breaks were used in electronica - snares is
basically just mike p's indirect brainchild, and if it
werent for mike p - what do you think pusher and afx would
sound like today?

I think squarepusher was doing it before mike p. And snares
is really just a squarepusher wannabe.

offline corticalstim from Canada on 2003-07-19 09:58 [#00786141]
Points: 3885 Status: Regular | Followup to weatheredstoner: #00786139

i dont know about the whole snares comment - i think the
fact that mike p was doing the whole breakcore style with
the highly distorted breaks and whatnot for so long - im
still gonna have to say that snares is following more of a
mike p. set style.

interesting snares/µ-ziq comparison. But if you listen to
Go plastic then listen to a bunch of snares, you can
actually hear Aaron Funk licking Tom's left nutsack in the
background. :)

hahahahahaha

yea it's no small coincidence that no one heard of snares
until he started biting tom's style on go plastic.

i don't think he was saying you didn't, just making a
comment on snares' musical direction.. that's how i took it
anyway

id say Photek (samurai era) was/is one of the best beat
makers out there. squarepusher is ok but I find him very
gimmicky. Ae kick ass on Confield and LP5. Aphex twin, I
think is shit . . .

opinion:

FAST: Venetian Snares
CHILL: Autechre
NOISE: Squarepusher
