I scored a copy of Metroid II: Return of Samus for Game Boy...the original Game Boy, no joke. It was 20 bucks used but it works like a charm. When you go to save, you blink and your game is saved. The game is completely non-linear... you can pretty much do anything at any time. But the coolest part of this game is the way you have a counter indicating how many metroids you have left to eliminate in the game -- and as the game progresses, they get stronger, and you're forced to fight them in more treacherous locations. This game, while very old-school, is cool as all get out.
By the way, if any of you haven't played Metroid Fusion or Prime yet, I suggest you do so RIGHT NOW.
You can play the original Metroid on Prime if you've beaten Fusion....:-D
Damn, I need an SNES and a copy of Super Metroid!!!

actually Nintendo has long since dropped the price on Prime. It runs around $30 now at retail.

I really never liked Metroid 2 much, other than the music... but there's only a couple of tracks! The original Gameboy in general really annoyed me with the blurriness so I didn't play it much. I never got far in it, it was pretty tough... and easy to get lost with no map!
Metroid- *** Metroid 2- ** Super Metroid- ***** Metroid Prime- ****1/2 Metroid Fusion- ****
Super Metroid is the best, not frustratingly hard but no pushover, and the music was incredible for the SNES! Way better and scarier than Prime's. The music there was too midi and not atmospheric enough... too many glitchy gimmicks and noises, and cheap techno beats.
Fusion is too fun but way easy, it holds your hand and walks you through the game like you're 5 years old, whereas Super dropped you in the middle of nowhere without a clue...

metroid 2 was the last video game i REALLY got into i think. if not the last, it was one of the last.
nowadays i like watching people play more than playing myself. with the exception of 'soul reaver' for the saturn... i played the bjesus out of that.

yeah i want to find a copy of super metroid. the linear guidance thing in fusion pissed me off too. but i had to admit, the story really pulled me in.
i guess since the series creator, Gunpei Yokoi, has left our plane of existence, then that means that metroid may never live up to its SNES epoch.

I have Prime, Fusion, and the original (from beating prime and fusion), I've beaten prime at 100%. I have no idea what to do in the original I can't get far at all.

The things about all the old school Metroids is that you're pretty much on your own and free to explore. Pretty much, just look for power-ups. That's about all you can do right now.
But having that freedom of exploration back then was a big thing back in the 8bit days. The original Zelda still rocks, and its total freedom!

By the way, they're remaking the original Metroid for GBA with Fusion quality graphics, and an updated game engine with elements from Super and Fusion.
So maybe Zero Mission will surpass Fusion, (which will be tough) and hopefully have more freedom. :-D
Hey, it's possible. The Resident Evil remake, in my opinion, surpassed nearly all RE's before it -- except maybe RE2.

The original metroid and super metroid are two of the scariest games i ever played. Specifically because you never really know what to do... and it really does feel like an alien planet.
Lots of times i would go through some door... and then suddenly appear in some room where the floor is molten lava, and a huge swarm of enemies immediately comes at you. And you think: "Oh shit... i wasn't supposed to come here this soon. This must be one of the last levels or something! I'm not strong enough for this yet!"
But ofcourse there's no turning back, and the game forces you to play on anyway. Brilliantly done. :-)
Also the escape-scenes (when the planet is going to explode in 2 minutes) are very very nerve-wrecking. I don't think i've ever been that scared in a videogame (especially the first time you played it).

Yeah, the RE Remake has the best graphics I've ever seen, and it adds enough new stuff to the game to make it a whole new experience. Best redux ever. Those Crimson Head zombies made me turn off the Gamecube in horror. Almost.
Nobody's better than Nintendo, this new Metroid is gonna be great, and I hope it goes back to the roots with NO obvious ''objective'' like Fusion. That game really lacked the scary feel 1 and 3 had, like Surrounded said. It's like looking for needles in a haystack full of poisonous spiders.
Metal Gear Solid's Twin Snakes for Gamecube is another awesome looking remake... it's all the rage lately! Snake is well groomed with NO mullet in MGS1, that's a good thing. Definitely looking forward to a well-coifed Solid Snake.

Yes, I am looking forward to Twin Snakes! Good to be Snake again, rather than sissy-ass Raiden. I can't to see what Silicon Knights, makers of Eternal Darkness (greatest survival horror game EVER) do with Psycho Mantis, one of my favorite bosses ever.
"You like Zelda, don't you?"

i only played two a little but i have been looking for a copy for sometime, prime and super metroid are my favorites of the series, fusion is excellent as well, although a little easy, i really like how you know what to do, its a good change for metroid althoguh i dont think it should be done the same way in the next one (i doubt it will anyways)
the mgs remake looks great though, as does re4.

nemesis is one of my favorite RE bosses - but my favorite scene of RE history is when you're about to fight Neo Tyrant (Mr.X) for the fifth time. You grab a key, and there's this monitor. You turn the monitor on, and Mr.X is walking right towards it, looks directly at it, and then smashes it.
That part still gives me a russsssssh!!!!

I know, man! It's like a nonstop geek party!
STTTAARRRS... Fucked coincidence, I just bought Resident Evil 3 the other day and I'm about halfway through now. I beat it a few times back in the day when my cousin had it, but I'm just now getting it. That finishes off my RE collection, got 'em all... except Survivor, Gaiden, and the new shooting crap that don't really count and only has the RE name stuck on for sales purposes.
2 is still my fave... Leon is returning in 4. I hate him though. Billy is my all-time favorite RE dude.
Next game I'm going to buy is probably Silent Hill 3... I thought it was already out. IGN gave the Japanese version a stellar review.
