amazon.com user review of RDJ album

"His music could be criticised for being too simple to
create, my friends comment being "An 8 year old could write
this," but that would be completely beside the point, an 8
year old didn't write it, it was created by an intelligent
and rhythmically conscious musician. This goes to show that
music doesn't necessarily have to be infinately over-written
or complicated to produce the mood or tension that was
strived for in the first place."

man, this is dumb. calling this album "simple" is an
freakin' insult! If Richard D James album is not
complicated, then please PLEASE tell ME, what is COMPLICATED
music? I could understand if these ignorant friends of his
think techno/trance/drum&bass is simple and easy to make
(which it ISN'T), but i cannot understand how they can think
that about the RDJ album, which is full of inventiveness and
complexity ...jeez

Yeah, I agree with you man. My feeling is whoever thinks of
it as simple just doesn't understand anything about making
music, or isn't into it enough to really notice all the
subtlety and shit.

Yep, even generic die-cast DnB is pretty hard to do...
