singles are too expensive. album prices have come down so
now the price ratio of singles to albums is absurd. make
singles 2 quid again. and limit them to 2 tracks perhaps.
gotta try something different anyway.

agreed.. and artists should release singles in america too
because there are a lot of people, like myself, who would
buy them if they weren't pricey imports.

I think the music industry is completely shitfucked.
Production gear is cheaper than ever, the means of
distribution are cheaper than ever, and the most-pumped
artists are more boring than ever.

Hence, the "industry" is being supplanted by talented
semi-amateurs, some of whom are going to make a healthy
living at it eventually because they will appeal to niche
demographics like us who are more liable to financially
support their favorite artists.

Any media empire that is based on scarcity (now artificial
scarcity) of product is doomed. End of story. You can whine
and moralize about it all you want - but the only
alternative is ridiculously draconian countermeasures that
are too little, too late. Even if you eliminated piracy
(ha!) there's just too much competition for the big boys and
their generic mush meal music.
