All the reviews i read of draft say its less 'difficult' to listen to compared to confield, and that its more of a return to slightly older works like chiastic slide. I disagree, i find draft 730 increadibly hard to listen to, its like, every song starts with a melody, then 3 minutes in it disintegrates into random nonsense.

pff. It so is random nonsense. Everyones like 'no, its genius, its in 17-8 compound time with a slight waltz. Bullshit its nonsense, it gives me a damn headache, and there's no structure behind it at all. 'Yeah aphex, but thats the point, they're redesigning music to go outside of the boundaries of what is traditionally seen as "music"'. What a load of horseshit.

i agree tho that draft is still as / if not more abstract than confield... confield had rhythems that you could hang onto during the really crazy parts, but a lot of the draft songs dont give you anything to focus on, and its a bit overwhelming. but i love it.

i would definitely agree that draft is a much more scatter-shot affair than confield... but i can't help liking it more and more each time i hear it...
it'll never be confield... but i'm happy enough just to get the chance to hear the sonic pallette of ae post-confield, some of the noises they force out of their machines are absolutely mind-boggling... (see 6ie.Cr)

ok, so maybe i dont 'get it' or im not 'cool enough' to understand. I appreciate different people find different things in music. It just seems like autechre are testing to see when their fans start saying 'what the hell are you doing? Have you been taking the piss these last few years?'. I predict the next album will just be white noise, or perhaps 2 hours of scraping fingers across a blackboard. No doubt everyone will buy it and decide its the work of a genius. Or two.

yeah. smojphace is not art. its rdj seeing how far he can go.
autechre wouldnt do that... they take their music much more serious then rdj. imo.

anyways. yes.

hardly. I have the entire discography of aphex twin, squarepusher, and autechre. I just think the new autechre cd is a push too far. I like the artists, but i still remember what sounds good to me, and what sounds like nonsense. Its just an opinion people.

Its the same for aphex twin. I like a lot of his stuff, but i also think most albums have a couple of totally shite tracks. Druqks had one CD too many. Scrap the children crying in wind tunnels, and answer machines. Give me the good stuff.

Autechre has a gift for making highly structured music that sounds like random shit at first then slowly comes into focus. Of course if that is the primary aesthetic pleasure of listening to them then it must fade over time as the puzzles are solved. And maybe I'm getting tired of that game anyhow.

well, it is possible to have a bad song in a genre. I mean, ok so its not a truth of the universe, because it is all up to the listener... but I think for the most part, people can agree on whats a good and a bad composition.
i beleive aphextriplet doesnt like the overall genre of "noise"... so you cant just say a whole genre is bad.
but you can have bad peices of work in a genre. and smojphace is bad.

daft 730 [its new name] isnt really noise in the same sense as the new aphex CD, it just has no structure or melody in like, every song after a few minutes. I cant listen to that cause i dont enjoy it at all. I like music to sound at least vaguely like music. I love almost every track on daft 730 until about 3 minutes into each of them

I have read in interviews that they use or Cubase, and that program can really lend itself to doing deconstructive stuff. Brian Eno once said something like... it is interesting to go to an extreme place, and explore it, but then come back to a more useful position. I would have a problem if Autechre were writing Gantz Graaf for every song, but they aren't doing that. They are using solid structures, but then allowing them to come apart and find other places to reform. There are a lot of artists doing stuff now that is more in the vein of Tri-Repetae, LP5 etc. but I think Autechre just needed to move on from that, although I think that stuff is still in there it is just way more abstract.
Imagine if it were 10-11 years ago and Skinny Puppy had just released Last Rights, and everyone was like "Too Dark Park pushed the envelope a little bit, but this just takes it too far. We really want to hear Rabies again." Of course then they released The Process and that sort of happened ...well kind of but different.
