The idea that the RIAA are losing billions in sales right now is nonsense. Most people who download music wouldn't buy it if the means to download it were removed.
However, I think they're really looking ahead a few years. If P2P sharing of their music was unchecked, and given the increasing number of people on broadband connections I can see real damage being done to the music industry by filesharing.

Maybe your right, as the people behind the one-hit-wonders and formulated plastic bands will continue to shove their products (real music is art, theirs just a disposable product) down people's throats because that's what fuckers such as the RIAA or other corporate fascists do. And in this world the one with the most money seems to be making the and changing all the rules and laws, so I guess that's we have ourselves a really vicious circle. RIAA forcefeeds their product down kids' throats, since they're a large, easily manipulated target audience, so their product gets sold, controlling TV and radio (as these depend on sponsors), so they basically control what the sheeple will buy, overflowing the music market with their shit, outbreeding real music, which will eventually die away. I'm seeing it happen already. Nothing really compares (musically) done up until the late 70's to what we see happening now. The percentage of real music in the charts has since the 80's been reduced to what? 2%?
Only formulated disposable R&B,girl/boyband and Milk inc./sylver/lasco type o' shiteproducts occupy the charts now with only glimpses of real music coming through now and again.

if this means that there'll be less tossers swapping shite like creed & nickelback on-line, then i'm all for it, personally!
but if it's people like us, who wouldn't otherwise have access to all matter of rmxs and rarities from our favourite artists, then it's really gone to hell!
and we all know it's about stemming the flow of downloads of stuff which is utter rubbish, but it churns in a healthy (and filthy) profit for RIAA and all the cunts associated with it.

thankfully for the now this only extends to people in the U.S. of fuckin' A., so the rest of us can sleep soundly for the time being, though it does set a dangerous precedent (and as we all know, the US is without a question at the forefront of setting dangerous precedents)

as a soulseek user, i'm not that worried... if i was sued by the riaa for music which they don't have the rights to anyway... i doubt it would be difficult to defend in a sane court... (outside of the states... otherwise i'm really not certain anymore)

Aren't there plenty of other programs that aren't "file sharing programs" that can share big files anyway? I don't use any so I don't know but can't "AIM" and stuff do this?
