Bitchin at Floops

There seems to be a group of people on this board that do
love using fruity loops and the results they get from it and
another group says that the sound is bad and that it's just
shit.
I wanna know if the ones that dislike floops ever made a
decent track with it... or was it all pretty much crap?
Cus this is the way I see it: When I first used floops,
everything I made sounded like a big fuck up and the sound
quality was really bad. But after a half year of fucking
around, I started making decent tunes but still with crappy
sound quality. And after another half year of making music
that way, I finally managed to create good sound quality.
Once you've accomplished that, it'll only go better. Now I
can't think of a better program than fruity loops, it's
almost perfect imo. You just need to get a good hang on it.
Give it a try!!!

I'm still using it, i've already got something cool sounding
i've only spent an hour with it. I dunno it's just the loops
thing annoys me a bit, but 'tis cool 'nuff i guess.

Everything on my site I did with floops. I think
floops kinda sucks and it does a lot of wierd things
sometimes. I'd rather have a lots of nice hardware and
Logic.

That would be well nice wouldn't it!

Don't get me started on the wish list thing.

I've been using it for almost a year, only just
getting somewhere really...

It's all about mimicking Autechre!

the reason why i dislike FL now, is that FL4 fucked up my
projects for the last 2 years!!! ...so now i can choose
between going back to 3.56 or trying something new...

I knew about that, it sucks man :(

Logic is btw indeed a very very nice program, it is one of
the main reasons why I want to buy a powerbook.

if you give yo yo ma a cheap cello you bought at a garage
sale... he could still make it good.

and if you give some begginer the most expnesive cello in
the world... it will still sound bad.

my point is... a program is a tool. People have different
tastes.

Personally, I never liked floops. It just wasnt how I liked
to work. It doesnt mean anything, except that its just not
for ME.

Live and let live.

fun , if you know what im talking about; just sit in front
of , make some fine sounds , that sall

After initally appearing to come across non-partisan, Zeus
drops the subliminial bombshell, "Live and let
live. "

Obviously a reference to Ableton Live ;P

In all seriousness I agree with you- I bet Aphex and co.
could make stuff in floops that would wipe the floor with
anything I could do in logic with scores of plugins.

People who make sweeping statments like, "All music made in
floops sounds alike" or "Reason is only any good for dance
and dnb" probably haven't spent enough time with that
program...

No- I wasn't talking about you, whilst I agree that it's
easier to make dnb/dance in reason than IDM, it's not
impossible- your stuff proves this (made in Reason, right?).

Talking of you though, I saw a news feature on people
sneaking into the uk to work under the guise of tourism
while I was eating my dinner tonight!

You checked your mail yet? :)

He he- have you used live? Really good for mindless
"HDjing" of samples without having to worry about
tempo/pitch matching.

yeah i got a copy of it i messed around with a bit.

my friend loves it for live shows... and he does it well,
but i didnt like its layout, and it was somewhat
unintuitive...

to really get good results, you gotta map your keyboard
keys, and your midi controller... then you can control alot
more... but otherwise, its too much for just a mouse.

but setting up the commands was a pain to do as well...

*shrug*

I agree ceri. Especially what you said about giving it some
time. That's the most important thing about making music,
take your time to discover.

i use live for a majority of my new finished works. i used
it when playing live, though, i generally like it for making
actual songs.

i just wish it had vsti support. give me some sort of
keyboard and vsti, then it will be my favorite thing ever.

The software you use is irrelevent if it produces the sound
you want and allows you to express your creativity to it's
fullest extent. Simple as that. If Floops does it, then
hooray. If Cubase does it, then hooray. If your studio
packed with the most expensive equipment does it, then
hooray. If your uncle's £5 organ and a pair of spoons do
it, then hooray. All that matters is point B, the end
product. The route taken to get there has no importance to
anyone but the person standing at point A.

Or something.
