i am looking to buy a new laptop in a few weeks time,
mainly for university and making music but first i have a
few questions....

1) will i be able to stick a soundcard in it or will i need
to get an external one? if so can anyone reccomend a
cheapish good souncard (i hear the audiophile is good)
2) reccomend a brand? i was gonna go for a sony vaio, but
there expensive for the spec
3) would i be worth changing to a mac? probly not, but i am
studying architecture and im gonna be making music

thanks

1. You will almost certainily need to buy an external
soundcard in it if you want decent sound quality/to use it
for mp3Jing etc. cheapish/decenbt one would be the SB
extigy.

2. Dunno a lot about brands, but vaio is generally seen as
most stable/expensive. Siemens/fujitsu have good battery
life and seem a good price/quality compramise.
3. If you're doing architecture, go for a pc. Also easy
access to piratable music software.

thanks peeps, think i'll plump for a mid price vaio, dunno
what soundcard, i've gotta work the holidays for all the
extras, like a little mixer and a midi controller, probly
sell some of my hardware too (i'll post here if i am)

Pentium III 700-800??!? I think. 256Mb RAM 30GB (had a
larger drive and Ram put in it)....I have had it for two
years now. Great thing

My ibook is toasty warm when I sleep with it. After I have
been using it for a couple of hours it's like a hot water
bottle.

With a PowerBook an external audio interface isn?t the that
necessary - 2 ms latency with OS X & low noise - lefts you
to focus on makin good music intead of checking specs.

Ceri: Most computers gets warm during use?
