That's great! Reminds me of Road Rash for the Genesis. I've
caused a lot of property damage with my careless driving in
real life.

I've only damaged my own car and smashed a wooden post in a
car park at my brother's flat. Both times were indirectly
caused by other road users lack of consideration.

yeah yeah...always shift the blame on to the person that is
not here to defend themselves.
:p

He he, the time I damged my van it was a "white van man"
that forced me off the road and into a hedge! The second
incident was more my fault, but as a lawyer who was on hand
pointed out, "Don't worry, if you get a letter about it
we'll do him *points at other car* for contributive
negligence" :)

my car- not my van...

I must admit, when I drove a van I drove like a fucker- I
think it's because:
a) Vans are often owned by employers, rather than you, so
you don't care about crashing it much.
b) You'll be comparatively safe in a crash with a car or
bike.
c) You're higher up from the road you feel more
"disconnected" from it.
d) It's tempting not to looking mirrors at all as the field
of vision is so small, there's not much point...

Yeah, I see what you mean about driving the vans...the
height from the road and the feeling of false safety are my
biggest problems with vans.

Am glad you got away safe in both cases.

The time I hit a post I was only doing about 5mph in a tiny
1.0 litre car, it was amazing how much damage it did,
smashed through a post and threw bits of wood a couple of
feet. Funny as fuck as the lawyer's mum, who was also a
lawyer had done the same thing a couple of weeks earlier (it
had just been repaired), again as an indirect result of the
way the same guy had parked outside the parking bays. He was
in stitches and I was crying with laughter too :)

I get the same feeling of "van safety" with big powerful
cars too. My car is tiny and you can tell you're only inches
from the road, in big cars you feel like you're in an
invulnerable cocoon. I'm sure that's the reason all the gits
in mercs near me cut me up.

I've hit and run parked cars 2 times (I THOUGHT I would get
away with it but those damn snitch bystanders) and caused
one woman 300 dollars worth of damages... but I came to her
house and apologized with puppy dog eyes and I got off free.

I had to drive an ambulance around last summer, and it was
harrowing, I'm not used to using the mirrors to back up. I
hope I didn't kill anyone.

The gits in mercs cut me up 'cause with a couple of mercs
they ought to give one to me.

Selfish bastards :D

Yeah not being able to see out the back window is so hard to
get used to. You always think, "what if someone is standing
behind or there's a post I haven't seen?"

A flatmate did the funniest hit and run ever acouple of
months ago. Tried to park at speed into a space that was too
small, reversed into one car setting the alarm off. He then
quickly drove forwards trying to get out of the space, rear
ending the car in front. This car had a guy in who got out,
he tried to roll the car backwards, put it in first
(actually put it in second) and tried to pull away, hitting
the car behind as the car lunged backwards. He then gave up
and talked to the guy he'd rear ended. They looked at the
bumper and the guy let him off. He did drive away from the
car behind he hit twice (cracking their number plate in the
process).

We watched a woman doing something similair last week out of
my window, she manged to hit both the car in front and
behind at least three times. She finally "parked" parallel
to the kerb, but about 3 feet out! Whilst she was in the
shop a car clipped her wing mirror (poetic justice). When
she came out she managed to hit both cars once more each
before pulling away. And people say women are "safer"
drivers? ;)

sorry, I meant, when he thought he had put it in first, he
put it in reverse...
