Suggest an improvement 4 XLT!

1. A better search engine with world-standard
syntax, like, if you know who designed the cover of Draft
but wanna learn about some other ж cover artwork, you
gotta type +autechre +"cover art" -rutterford

2. Member aliases, so the username doesn't
necessarily have to match the display name. Usernames are
limited... I want it to be 20 characters long and have a
period at the end.

3. User voting, so the users can vote for each other
and see the most popular one.

4. Private messages, so we can contact the needed
people without spamming the board. Not everyone has
AIM/MSN/ICQ.

Yes but that's the point, it will make people envy each
other's status and will sew the deep-lurking seed of hatred,
so... Sorry, I got carried away. What are your suggestions?

AIM MSN and or ICQ are quite easy to d/l?

some sort of identification on threads that you've already
posted in so that it's easier to keep track of where you've
said something.

the search engine is supposedly going to be better.

I really don't care for the rest - 2 isn't needed (think
before you choose), 3 is just a plain bad idea and on 4 -
like korben says - how hard is to download and install icq,
for example?

Well I made the rest up to make my message look more
significant and full of thought.

Actually I think that all we need is a better search engine
and "Last post by:..." label on threads.

Korben and qrter, it's not about ME who can't d/l ICQ, it's
about those kopfheads who are lazy enough not to care. And
thinking of it, I don't know your IM, qrter, but I may
seriously need it someday.

offline korben dallas from nz on 2003-06-15 20:11 [#00742101]

tunemx put up the javachat a while back .. so maybe we'll
see something like that in xlt. if its for those lazy
kopfheads - what's to say they ain't too lazy to instant
message on xlt? it seems like a lot of hassle to go through
when good alternatives exist?

If [a kopfhead] enters XLT, a nasty uncloseable popup window
with my message appears and he/she has no chance to escape.

1.How about a favourites concept for usernames? (the names
you nominate show up in bold)

2.Webcam support for your avatar?
(yep that's right, a webcam in a pissy 60x80pixel window!)

go programmers gooo!!!!!!!

im not reading this thread so i dont know if anyone has
mentioned it, but i'd like little numbers next to the thread
title to jump directly to the page so you dont have to go to
page 1 first. (many other message boards have this)

Hear Thee!!! Hear Thee!!!

When a favourite thread is pushed off the most recent page
it should automaticaly be deleted from your favs so you dont
have to trawl through thousands of pages to delete
'em.........................or...................have
unlimited favourites & every thread you post in should
automaticaly be listed as a fav!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not rocket science ;p

a better search engine is definitely needed.

and with 3-letter word recognition, for example if i search
for zao wou-ki there is no results (even though i made a
thread on it)!

but what if you search for "the", "you", "man", "etc" ---
you know ppl will do it. i think it should stay with 4+
letters and ppl should just be smarter. want to find your
boc thread? search by date (or rank): boards canada.
it's not that hard; i've NEVER had any difficulty finding a
thread with the search function.

i don't carre about the last post thing. a simple numberr is
enough. i always know if posts have been added and i don't

the PM thing is good because not everryone wants to D/L

3-letter word searches would be retarded.. everytime someone
uses the search function it costs bandwidth, and 3-letter
words can be very common ("are", "can", etc.). unless they
came up with a list of 50 or so 3-letter words to
automatically eliminate (like google does) then it should
stay as is and ppl should just be smarter. want nin? type
"nine inch nails". or if you want to know about a certain
track look it up w/ the search function to see if it's been
talked about. you can comb through 4000 autechre threads
before finding one specific to "bine" or you can just look
up "bine" and you're set.

offline uzim on 2003-06-16 12:41 [#00743196]
Points: 17716 Status: Lurker

besides what's wrong with searching for "the" "etc" "you"
etc...? it is stupid but that's all! which problem can it
cause??

you can also search for "feel", "tell", "what", it is as
stupid.

your argument is worthless then =/

I agree with private messaging.

Being able to change usernames would be good too... but have
the original in you profile so we know who it is.

The voting thing is lame...

remove the search engine? what, so idiots can waste even

sorry ' _ '

not ALL 3-letter words are as common.
i'll give you the same example for the third time: zao
wou-ki. or if you want to search for acronyms, like icq or
aim. or if you want to search for the track "rae".

if it's a bandwidth problem, ok, fine, but still i feel like

cat is under 4 letters, and because so many words under 4
letters are extremely common, words 3 letters and under are
excluded. it's a necessary sacrifice; you can't have people
searching for my cat is bad because it'll get any
topic with those 4 words, eg:

message #1
my dick hurts
message #6
what is this?
message #8:
i like my cat, he is cool.
message #50:
bea arthur has a fucking NICE rack. i'm a bad boy, amn't i?

you wouldn't want that :)
