Can anyone reccomend a good graphical alternative to XMMS (www.xmms.org) ? It seems to produce crackling noises at the beginning of VBR mp3s whose bitrates fluctuate wildly at their beginnings.. Whereas on winamp, this doesn't occur at all, so I know it's not something that was recorded in the mp3.

what are VBR's exactly? I see a weird range of bitrates on them- oh- variable bit rate. And why then, is it variable?

i haven't had any trouble with xmms?! never seen such a decent player.. then again i'm just over windows hell on this comp (and on the other comp i never listen to music) and it might just be the aah no winamp thing.
