Anyone know the best way to submit a site to a search
engine and get a good result? This is doing my head in!
Please help!

In google, it is fairly based on how many times other sites
have posted a link to your site.

Otherwise you should include weird unique words that no one
else will use like "shmushabitoof". You will probably be
first in that search result, although nobody will likely
search for that unless deliberately.

(any help appreciated I just don't want to clog this site up
/ take the piss and I shouldn't post the company name here
i'm a freelancer and not supposed to discuss clients etc)

also, get web addresses that contain common words like"

www.autechre.tk
or
www.squarepusher.tk
or
www.theaphextwin.tk

not the company name. just for example if it was a portrait
photography company, youd want words like "portrait" to
bring your site up first

pairs work best though "portrait photgraphy" etc.

then you incorporate these into the title of your site etc.

plus it can take several weeks for your site to be spidered,
unless you have lots of links all over the internet going to
your site

OK its a design company, say they called XYZdesign.co.uk,
all they want is for the site to come up when u put in "XYZ
design" into google etc.

I have registered with google but it doesn;t come up at
all... just wondering if theres any tricks or ways of doing
it that would get a better result...

doesn't google search through the text in the actuall site?
I don't know. but maybe you need to put "xyzdesign" in text
on a main page somewhere so google can find it.

thanks!! I have done that, registered it weeks ago... but
there are no links to it from anywhere...

I will keep on trying!

Yes you are right...most search engines don't use keywords
when indexing now and it is based on the first so many
characters on your page and obviously the number of links
linking to your site.

So if you are using a lot of css or javascript make sure you
put them in seperate files and link to them as otherwise it
will adversely effect your ranking :P

so if i have the text in html with lots of references to
"xyz design" then that should help... ta.

No, repeated words are ignored...all that happens is it
mainly goes on the number of links to your site and then the
search engine chooses words to use as keywords from your
opening text. So the best thing to do is have a paragraph
stating exactly what it is you do with words you would want
to be associated with the site.

Another good tip is make use of the title. Include a small
number of keywords in your title as this is also read by the
spider.

search engine registration/optimization is one of the more
chaotic and unpredictable thing i can think of. my advice;
don't try to cheat, aim for google.
