Metaliica St. Anger

Conceptually I do not know which is worse. Their initial
selling out with albums like the Black one, Load and Reload.
Or this 'return to heavy metal' that sounds completely
tired, drawn out and like 20 bands that are either old, not
metallica or plastered on the radio.

I find this album extremely laughable.
Download it just because they hate it.

ONCE YOU SELL-OUT, YOU CANT GO BACK

and they did sell out after the "...and justice for all" cd

I grew up on their earlier shit. Puppets is for sure my
favorite album. Maybe that's why I get so annoyed when I
hear "fuck it all and no regrets" in St. Anger the song...
those lyrics belong in Damage, Inc. - that;'s where they
belong....

Hetfield's voice is shit.

i know people dislike them now, but they were metal
pioneers. It's the same as people's attitude towards Oasis.
When they came out everybody was like "wow, great band!",
now they say"Shit has-beens." I hate it when people follow
trends. Music is music. I don't think Metallica have sold
out at all. The only thing they will be selling out is their
concert tickets.

if people don't like them, there is a simple solution. don't
listen to them!
whats the point of discussing music you dont enjoy. where
is the gain in that?

I once came across a website by a guy that analyses every
Pink Floyd album, ripping them apart and saying how crap
they were. This sad idiot devoted a whole website saying how
much he hated a band. What is the point?

Getting Bon Jovi's producer and writing the album in the
studio is not a valid strategy for selling out...
you're right
And it all does sound very inventive and unlike anything
else on the radio...
i wish i had noticed that before
My last concert ticket was from the Wherever I May Roam
Tour, that was the last album I payed for as well.
"Yeah, we sold out, we sold out every seat to every show we
play." -Newkid who quit for some reason...

i wasn't saying that. and where do you want them to write
the album? in a treehouse. And Iraqi desert. A hang-glider
factory carpark? Those are the places I get inspired

I listen to them because the irony is so thick. And like I
said it is very laughable. That's just the problem... I'm
laughing, laughing at them and not with them 'coz they are
way too serious with their image and all that....

If I was a nerd with no life and alot of time on my hands I
would chop up Helmet and Soulfly songs and Nine Inch Nails
beats and then construct a 'St. Anger Remix' album. Did
Lars go to Helmet's drunner's house and steal his snare for
this album or what?

are a primary influence on these bands

i saw them live on mtv and i liked it a lot.

i dont think they sold out, because they only do what they
always did. music.

im not so familiar with metallica, but though i dont like
the new video for its new style (stupid voice solo),
i still think they just dont know better.

maybe someone told em to do it this way and they werent
smart enough to continue like they usually do.

but who doesnt want to keep in touch with time?

in general i would say, most bands do 3-6 good albums and
then begin to suck.

i've seen the video and heard the st anger single a few
times.
i'm starting to like it.
i kinda always liked metallica, but not enough to spend my
money on any of their albums, y'know.
i'm gonna grab a copy of this from a friend, and if its
good, i might buy it.

Metallica influenced everyone from Primus to Slipknot...
regardless the shit on the radio where half the bands'
singers try to sound like Lane Stayley of Alice In Chains..
whatever... I think I'd like it if they would of got a
singer.. someone who isn't three quarters def literally....
I might go out on a limb and quess you might be a little
younger than me...
back in the day music snobs said Tchaikowski's Overture of
1912 was pretentious bullshite
so... I hope as a musician I die young
or disappear before I get old and can't lead the pack
anymore like Betty Page or some shit
I mean come on, do you honestly believe they could still
write an 8 minute instrumental that would keep your
attention like Orion did?

thought that mtv gig sucked, actually. that weird bassplayer
was good for a few laughs but on the whole it was a bit
uninspired. they seem to be trying to add some difficult
structures to their songs (a la tool) but the textures are
blatantly nu-metal. sorry to say 'one' was the highlight of
the performance for me

just because you don't like a song or album, or even because
it's popular, or sounds popular, doesn't mean they've sold

How do you know their intentions?

hell, I ain't even a big Metallica fan...

Give me some Pantera "Fucking Hostile" over Metallicas
gargage any day of the week. For gods sake I've never
"clicked" with their style, but why do they have to keep
putting out crap, just retire and live off your fame.

Heard it for the first time at the weekend at a rock society
picnic. As someone there poited out, it sounds like nu-metal
without the clean crisp sound and production usually
associated with that genre.

I'm not a big metallica fan and only like a few tracks by
them anyway, but this did strike me as a weak album.

It made me listen to Master of Puppets and Justice for All
back to back... now THAT was some great listening. Thanks,
St. Anger.

(although really, I don't think it's the travesty a lot of
people are saying, it's just not very good)

selling out is when you change your style or sound for the
purpose of earning more money.

You can change all you want, and adapt, and rap on your
songs. If that is what you want to do, then who are we to
say that's bad?

If it sounds bad, that is one thing, but is it selling out?
Not if that is what they really wanted to do. If it's cuz
it's popular to rap on songs, and they will push more units,
THAT is selling out.

I don't think they sold out their music, maybe their image,
but what's the point anymore, they're rich and their music's
stale, Next!

all i know is that their new disc sounds like the some kids
who just got toghether to start a band and play incoherent
riffs and licks.

or maybe i'm missing something.. maybe with more listens
i'll discover what they were trying to do now...

but i don't think that's likely

he must have switched to sound more nu-metal-y..

Funny though, I liked both those bands (more metallica than
oasis... way more) but that was back when I was too young to
know anything about music. But seriously Metallica died
around Load/Reload. They churned out like 3 decent tracks
between those 2 albums.

Lars' snare on this album is the most annoying snare I've
ever heard. Every time he hits it, it's like
PAAAAAAANNNNNGGGGG. Plus there are no guitar solos, and
Hetfield sounds like he's not even trying anymore, vocally
and lyrically.

yeah i downloaded a few bits of tracks, what the hell is
with those drums? in the title track in the mellow bit its
like pum pum PAAAAOOOWWW pum pum PAAAAOOOWWW .. and the
guitars sound like they're straight out of a korn track from
life is peachy.. all muddy and sloppy sounding.. although
dirty window isn't bad.. except for the quiet parts..

i also really liked load and reload.. especially the bluesy
tracks on load.. but justice and puppets were their peak in
my opinion..

The bluesy tracks, exactly... I actually LIKED that...
people were saying they ''sold out'', but really, if
Metallica wanted to sell more units, making their music
BLUESIER wasn't gonna do it.

They just saw the haircuts and cast judgement on their well
groomed heads. ''YUORE NOT METAL ANEEMOR!1''
