Snares tries too hard.

Is it just me or does Snares music come across as this
wannabe scary goth crap? Not that the actual music is bad,
but all the silly samples of 'scary' things and all the lame
album covers with goth type pics makes me wonder if Funk
used to don a black cape and paint his fingernails black
back in high school. And then he's purposely trying to be
hardcore, which is fine but as we've seen from Dismantling 5
Years he can churn out a chill track every now and then. But
you just know that as soon as all these little goth kids get
tired of listening to Skinny Puppy and NIN, they'll look to
Aaron as their new savior.

Discuss.

Yeah but Snares has such variety in his work. I think that
is just one of the sides of his work to be honest. He does
many different things.

I don't think he tried too hard. I think SOME of the vocal
samples are quite effective, but it depends on the song
itself as well.

i can see what you mean, he goes quite over the top on some
of the stuff, but i think he has some geniunely scary stuff
as well - check out that children's limbo track on find
candace - it's scary in a different way to the 'goth' stuff

Gothic. You know, those kids who put flour on their faces,
wear sunglasses at night and dye their hair black?

i believe that WITBOAS well sell highly in the 'goth
market'. First a few underground goths will hear snares
first (most likely by accident because they overheard an IDM
head talking about it). Then it will spread like a disease
and Aaron Funk wont care because he makes Goth albums and he
get lots of money.

snares gothy? no.

really, i'd like to hear a collaboration between snares and
some female singer from a goth band. like tina root from
switchblade symphony.

What I wonder is why people say shit like "Snares does HEAPS
of different styles!"
he does drill n bass. crazy drum stuff with weird time
sigs.
OK so he may switch from jazz cutups to goth shit, but it's
still NOT that diverse...

its not, but it is. He does diversity in HIS STYLE, the
problem is HIS STYLE likes to include cheesy horror movie
samples and other lame shit.

I'd just wish he'd do more tracks like

nepetalactone/poor kakarookee
