You should know that at any one time there are usually only 10 percent of the population above ground. You have to kill the queen, because the lives of thousands of ants is less important than the appearance of your garden. The queen can only die by the touch of human saliva, so you have to reach your tongue in the ant hole.

boiling water works quite well, but the little bastards always appear elsewhere
i read recently there is one eastern european country (dunno which one) its illegal to kill ants

don't forget that it is not finished with just that!
there needs to be great praise given to the dead queen. your sign of respect for her family and slaves. failure to do this will result in another drone suddenly assuming the role of new queen and starting the process all over again.
a simple song and dance after using your tounge usually works for me.

I have ants in my kitchen. They're pretty smart. They know when to freeze and be camouflaged against the flecks of color in the counter, and when to run like hell. Not that it does them much good - squirt squirt with some soapy water and they're deaded,
I figure they're smarter than George Bush but not quite as clever as my cat, because fucked if I can find him when he's hiding.

they'll all be differant famillies or whatever , so if you get a trailof jam or something from each nest to the next they'll follow it , make war and wipe each other out . and you get to watch them kill each other :D .... i think this is the way...

Ants with wings are the new queens & drones...
When you see them flying, it's what's known as the Nuplital flight...where they fly off to mate & then create new colonies
Shouldn't be long before it's time...and mr jand will be out there capturing a few....my aquarium awaits....
I'm lucky as my other half understands my love of them so hasn't any problem letting me keep them in the house....
(Wish I could undestand why my last colony died...2 yrs old so I def had a queen etc....)...
