I finally bought Venetian Snares - Winter in a Belly for a Snake today. I got more embarassed by the day because I didn't own a vsnares record. Everytime I told myself to go buy one of his records I eventualy bought something else.
Anyway, it's a great album. It's kinda satanic in a way. I love the vocals, very refreshing for this kinda music, it reminds me of one of my own tracks.
Some of the tracks could be a little less autechrish and a bit more the old vsnares, but it's still a very good album with a very nice atmosphere imo.

Maybe the beats/sounds in "dad" are a bit like the ones in "acroyear2", but I still think they sound good. I think "suffocate" is one of his best.

WITBOAS is one mean record. I was listening to it last night as I went to sleep... very dark and clinical. Like finding a human limb out in the snow somewhere.

Its a so-so release. The melodies are weak and I cant stand the vocals.

I disagree, the vocals are dark and wicked. And it's a quite non-melodic album which really fits the style of the album.

Funny you say that seeing as, relatively, it's the most melodic Snares album, hehehe.
WITBOAS is incredable in a technical aspect, the programming is all top notch and creative. Song structures are original and almost more "accessable" than other Snares records(ie dad). I really like this album alot, not my favorite, though(I like Higgins and all the really hard stuff he does, and I like it when he uses unabashed Amen break sounds).

the reason why is sounds "autechreish" is because the beats are more spaced out, minimal, and precise. I don't really think it's ripping off autechre though, i just think that some of their albums also have these qualities (and believe me, there are a lot of autechre rip-offs out there) I actually think this one is my favourite, everything soundsd exactly in it's proper place, and it's so damn creepy. This album indicates to me that Funk's sound is very much changing over time, and that he is perfectly capable of taking his sound wherever he pleases, possibly miles and miles from his earlier breakcore material (he ain't no one trick pony)...
