how loud are you listening to music? with headphones or
speakers? are you concerned with your ears damaging because
of loud listening?

usually, i listen on, like, 4 (out of 10) on my portable CD
player... and the volume on 5 or 6 on my iMac... always with
headphones

depends on music
i always listen snares on max - i guess its not good for the
ears, but its great for the brain

some months ago i was at this gig and the music was really
loud...i couldnt hear on my right ear for 2 or 3 days - i
was scared of not be able to hear again...but its all good
now

usually the volume of my MD player is on 30 (out of 30),
sometimes i put it at 28 or 25, 'cause the bass sounds
better then

i think it's too loud, but vsnares/aphex/æ etc. rock so
much more at high volume imo

yeah depends on music...
I like base, but sometimes I just turn down the other
frequencies... also I haven't got any big speakers =(
But depends on mood... and genre...
hardcore is usually played loud...

With headphones, cheap, "in ear" ones are the biggest
culprit in hearing problems. Also, if you DJ in a club, get
a decent pair of closed back ones. Not worth fucking your
hearing up for the sake of £50 difference in price :/

I don't listen to music really loud... partly because
I'm considerate of my neighbours and partly because I don't
enjoy music to be uncomfortabley loud.

REALLY LOUD, both with speakers, and at night with
headphones.

I've already got a slight ringing in my ears. Although... it
was worse two years ago. Maybe I'm so deaf now I can't even
hear the ringing!

my car "stereo" (meaning a portable cdplayer with a cassette
hookup and whatever factory speakers came with my 1990
calais) doesn't really go up very loud, but in a friend's
car the volume is always pretty high. i go to the
audiologist every so often and i haven't had nerve damage
yet...measurable anyhow.

Playing CapIV on my stereo system with volume set to 20 (out
of 50) atm....30 is the max for me (unless a track is
recorded/endoded too soft)

Some music is painful even at low decibels.

hehehe, same with me

when i put the music off in my car for instance, the volume
level must always be on 14 (on scale from 1-33) or it
bothers me...and i tend to listen on even number all the
time...

i was born about 80% deaf in my left ear, so everything has
always had to be really loud... with headphones on i always
have the balance about half way into the left to balance it
out for me... sucks, but i inherited it from my mums side of
the family

Merzbow is quite painful even at normal volume (and it's
more enjoyable when listened at high volume!)... so i try
not to listen to it too often though i like it ^^

i often have earbuzzes after one hour of Merz : )

I listen at a comfortable level. Being careless about your
hearing is stupid, especially if you enjoy music.

Ophecks: The ringing isn't coming from your ears -- it's
coming from your brain. So it doesn't really matter if you
are deaf or whatever. It would actually make it worse
because the ambience of your surroundings is what blocks, or
"masks" the ringing, and if you were deaf or had some form
of hearing loss, it would just intensify the head-noise.

Problem is that a lot of people don't realize that if you
fuck around with that "ringing" sensation long enough, it
will stay that way, permanently.

were destroyed.. i guess once and a while it wont hurt, but
i tend to stay away from listening to a walkman for long
periods of time , my ears usually start to hurt anyway

Some stuff needs to be heard loud, whereas others need to be
heard at a low volume. I mean, 'Come On My Selector' would
hardly make sense at low volumes and SAW II would be silly
at high volumes. More often than not, it is the nature of
sounds that hurts my ears. Especially with Coil, and Ae...I
listen to the music quite loud. And then the ringing in my
ears begins.

er yeah well i have to jam with my headphones often enough\

and i turn it up almost fully loud on the mixer

sometimes it physically hurts trying to get a kick or snare
sound correct :]

come on....you serious? Are you suggesting the high volume
so that I get to hear the details?

I've given it a try and it seems just as detailed on low
volume as it does on high volumes. Maybe it is my pretty
good speakers...or maybe my ears are just more sensitive
than yours at low volumes...

and I like to let it drift by me at night as I fall asleep,
at low volume...I dunno, thats just my way of enjoying it, I
guess.

They sound bad (excuse the bad pun). Get yourself a
Sennheiser HD 600 if you can afford it. You won't be sorry.
Trust me.

hmm i dont think the only thing that loud volumes provide is
more detail..

you can feel it!

Not very loud. When I was a teenager I couldn't get it loud
enough. Nowadays I mostly listen to music at low to medium
volumes. If I'm out with my headphones I go louder to drown
out city noise.

Details? Of barely-concious ambience?

No. The point is to be IMMERSED in the music, not put it
under a high-powered microscope.

But agreed, to each his own. At least we both like the
album.

:)
