I know this has been asked before but i couldn't find it
with the search function, so here it goes again:

when in play my mp3s in winamp the names of the tracks in
the winamp-playlist aren't the same as the filenames (as i
see them in my folders in explorer)

i hate this, i changed a lot of these filenames, so they
would look good, but when i play them in winamp they get
back their original names or other names (or whatever the
hell happens.. anyway it ain't good)

how can i change this? or what should i d/l to get the
actual filenames in the playlist?

nb: i use winamp 3.0

thanks in advance :)

hahaha winamp 3 is always good for a chuckle or two...

anyway, get a ID-3 edit program, that would do the trick i
guess

it should play the original file name, if you change the
filename, it doesnt register with winamp. I use media
player, and the same problem occurs, but in media player you
can write the new name of the song whilst it is open in
media player, and it doesnt bring up the old one anymore.
Maybe that will work?

i have mediaplayer, but for music i prefer winamp
and it's quite a lot of work to change all names by typing
them while running mediaplayer ey..

anyway thanks both for the help :)

(JAroen where the hell can i get that ID-3 thingy you're
talking about?)

was the best of the winamp versions.. but aparently i was
wrong there :D hehe

if you rip a CD, type the filenames in before you rip it,
that way you dont have all the mess afterwards

you can edit the ID3 tag from an older winamp version (like
2.8x)

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!

I just tried some 'LC Enterprices MP3 renamer' which i got
off the net... and i selected the folder with the most mp3s
to rename (what the hell was i thinking?! i didn't even know
what i wanted to do now that i think of it) and now all
perfect filenames (which i renamed manually) got their old
initial name back!!!

aaargh i suck with computers!!! :(((

i'm gonna download winamp 2
or rather winamp 0.1 if that exists...
:( :\

look Morton...ID3 is a good thing...they tell you stuff
about the artist (is there is any info)

I use a program called WMAinfo to make ID3-tags. You have to
get into the program. Yo ...you need to learn ID3 man...it's
the only way ahead...
right click on the file in winamp and choose file-info

Hello, I had this same problem.
Winamp likes to use the ID3 info tags for the playlist,
which I hate too. I was told to get an ID3 removing
program.
I got one called "ID3 Kill", it searches through your
directory, and finds all the tags and clears them. Then
winamp can only use the filenames, just reload the files
into it. Still a little quirky sometimes, but nothing you
can't figure out.
You can probably get ID3 Kill from download.com or
something, thats where I got it.

In Winamp 2, go into Winamp preferences, input, Mpeg audio
decoder settings, titles/tags, and untick the checkmark for
"read ID3v1/v2 tags for titles".

It's probably similar in Winamp 3, but it still will suck.
Get 2. That is their new dev branch anyways - they've pretty
much abandoned the codebase that resulted in 3, so I hear.
