I try to stay away from people like that in real life so why watch them in my spare time?

dont watch it. You're basically watching a bunch of people do nothing. Its the lowest form of tv there is. Imagine what creative things you could do in 3 hours instead of watching people sit on a sofa and think about being where you are, not doing what youre doing

Ignore crap like that, don't give in to the hype. I'm glad over here it's been a while since it was on, everyone was psyched about it, but it was worthless. Just some idiots on TV doing absolutely nothing.
Anytime a day you should have better things to do than watching crap like that.

Well said.
I think their idea of having a "variety of people on the show" is preposterous- only a very narrow group of people are the "type" to agree to go on reality TV shows. You would, for example, be highly unlikely to get a quiet, bookish, private person or someone with a drug addiction on the show.

Yeah, consider it "the sims" without the modicum of interactivity ;)
The tasks they have to perform does little to conceal the fact that the majority of the show consists of watching people in a house. You can do that at home with your own family, or just share a house with some friends for a few months. You'll have your own arguments etc. :)

The show is a very good example of media manipulation. In the last series Jade was being depicted as some kind of hate figure and the great unwashed despised her. Fearing she would get lynched when she was evicted, the producers edited the show to make it look like Adele was the real evil bitch. The result - Jade is the nation's fat thick darling and will be appearing in a nightclub near you soon.
big brother indeed.

big brother is so sick! it was interesting to watch but after i tuned in some of the first eps here in germany i really got sick!
im not that perverted that i need to watch people getting a nervous breakdown cause they are humans in ihumane situations.
being kept like a animal fighting for appreciation.
the problem is not being watched but that it is a competition.
i could be watched my whole life by millions, but not in a situation that uncomfortable like being held prisoner with so many people.

The first un was interesting, simply because it was the first series and because of "Nasty Nick" manipulating the other contestants. I watched it to see how far he'd get with it, when he was thrown out a lot of the interest I had went.
Basically it's not going to be enjoyable unless they stick a total psychopath in there.

"Basically it's not going to be enjoyable unless they stick a
total psychopath in there."
Or people whose fundamental beliefs mean they'd hate each. I want them to put in:
a member of the catholic clergy, a pornstar, a communist, a militant muslim, a paranoid schizophrenic (without their medication), a martial artist, your typical duke nukem style male chauvanist, a CEO of a multinational company a pseudo-intellectual poser, a militant feminist and an elderly man in a wheelchair.
That would be a "good range of people" and make for spectacular television.

Big Brother is one of those shows that brings out the whiners and TV snobs.
I'll be watching it tonight, sure I could be doing something far more productive with my time like raising money to feed starving African orphans or something, but fuck it, I've been working hard all week and what some mindless entertainment.
It's easy to dismiss the show as 'nothing', but it's incorrect to do so. I find it interesting to see how ordinary cope with being in an extraordinary environment and to watch the whole group interaction thing. The fascination of a snake pit...
