watmm big critics?

offline catharsis from Toronto (Canada) on 2003-05-15 15:37 [#00699964]

I'm new here, and even newer to watmm forums.

Having visited there for only a couple of days, they seem to
be pretty big fucking critics of everything. They cut up
SAW1 and Bilious paths - and they were pretty damn harsh
about it too.

Am I seeing a representative example of watmm discussion?

I've only been to watmm like once or twice... I don't like
the design of the site at all...

Sometimes they're like that. I left watmm (at least for the
time being) for many reasons, including a few people there
who were a bit too hostile for me.

I'm sure I'll go back sometime.

The majority of people that go there are good people and I
like being on a messageboard with them. There are only a
few, namely Pen Expers, that ruined it for me.

Watmm isn't all about being critical though, so I don't
think that's representative.

Just take some time there and see if you like it or not.
That's all. They deserve a fair shot.

A few of them were trashing Mikey P for being a poser.
Calling his latest album a Vsnares rip off....

I say...what the fuck else is new? He openly admits to
being heavily influenced by RDJ and squarepusher as can be
clearly heard from Tango N'Vectif to present, and he can't
stop talking about Vsnares, as can be presently heard on
Bilious paths.

I say, if you aren't an imitator, it doesn't mean you're a
poser. I guess RDJ is a poser for having adopted
squarepusher drill n'bass.

AND THEY FUCKING CUT UP SAW1, calling it 80's porn and
repetetive. Ya...let's just cut up a watershed in ambient
electronica.

cunts.

Eh, SAW 85-92 is one of my favorite albums. It's my favorite
out of RDJ's stuff.

I went there once for some reason for about a minute, just
never been inclined to go back.

tango n'vectif weas way before squarepusher came about so
ypo can't hear squarepushers influence there - problem is
muziq caqn do betterr and more original stuff - tango
n'vectif and bluff limbo being proof.
also i think afx and luke vibert were doing drum and bass
style stuff before squarepusher - alsd rdj's stuff is
totally differnent.
Luke vibert did the weird takew on drum and bass stuff
without being horrible bukem style drum and bass first with
his plug records ad then lp

squarepusher released Feed Me Wierd Things in 1996, and RDJ
album was in 1997. µ-ziq did urmur bile in 1997 (year
after squarpusher) and has since kept up the drilln' bass
formula.
Tango N'vectif sounds like SAW1, Classics, and Surfing Sine
Waves but with more overt melodies.

I think this topic is uncalled for and out of line.

There really is no need to bring this up... as a frequent
user of both boards, I find comparing the 2 is just
nonesense and crap... people trying to justify that they
have the better MB? What, is this like a soccer team?

If you dont like it, just dont go. Dont bring it up that
"omg, I dont like this place! what about you?! dont you not
like it?"

whats the point?

to me, it just sounds like your trying to be cool, and fit
in with all of the antiwatmm-ness that is on these boards...
maybe im wrong... but thats how I always see it with people
who constantly bring this subject up... its like they are
trying to gain approval through thier dislike of the "other"
board.

but again, that may not be the case... its just how i see
it...

so, yeah... please just, forget about all this. its a waste
of time, and effort.

YAOWZAS... Just a question. A no response would have been
suffice. I'm sorry to have offended you with such a
question.
I just find it wierd how any of us can sit and trash
something that we owe respect to. I challenge the people
trashing bilious paths to make something better in their own
bedroom.

If you don't like it say "it doesn't suit my tastes". "IT's
shit" is offensive.

You're a musician zeus. Would you rather have me tell you
that you're music is good but "not to my tastes"?

Or should I just call your music utter shit?

discussions

don't make such a big deal of that, it looks like you feel
personally attacked or something

Right....just a question. I just found the difference
between this board, and watmm quite striking.

I apologize if my post sounded harsh or offensive too. I

its just like, every 3 days, there seems to be another
attack at watmm, or on watmm, there is a attack on
xltronic.

its just fucking annoying, and pointless. there is really no
reason for it... it solves nothing... what does it
accomplish?

Im just tired of it.

cath: my issue isnt about how they critique music... its
about bringing up the whole watmm issue at a place that is
obviously a rival. (oh, and btw... take a look through any
random old thread about an album on here, and youll likely
find just an equally criticizing post)

offline catharsis from Toronto (Canada) on 2003-05-15 16:32 [#00700049]

What do any of us accomplish? The post would have given me
an idea of what others thought about the watmm board.

You need to take a chill pill zeus - and I think you're
exaggerating. Maybe hostility does run rampant on the watmm
board?

I haven't encountered that here.

I did do a search on Bilious paths here.......no.....less
hostile, more respect, and very split opinions.

ive been here for a year now

this board is just as, if not more, hostile.

I dont think I need to take a chill pill. I think you should
just admit that perhaps you started a thread on a touchy
subject, that really didnt need another thread dedicated to
it.

i was merely stating my opinion that this thread was
unnessasary.

lick your balls eh? thats really offensive and hostile. And
look... its on xlt!

OK....opinion heard and respected. I have freedom of speech
and I shouldn't have to tiptoe around those (like yourself)
who don't agree with my choice of posts.
If I would have known that these discussions were so common
I would have done a search. Sorry.

wow ignoring the children:

AFX got squarepusher into drum'nbass, jenkinson said so in
an interview, then Mike P followed afterwards. You cant say
who influenced who going by album dates, those RDJ songs
we're floating around years before they we're sold in
stores.

Bilious Paths has the snares influence on 1 or 2 songs, but
sounds NOTHING like Snares. Thats the great thing about Mike
P, you can hear the influences but its always his own unique
personal style through and through.

How can anyone bash SAW1 so badly? At the time of its
release it was the most fresh, new, innovative music of its
time, and RDJ made it while the rest of you we're playing
Nintendo and trying to find porn in your Dad's bedroom.

catharsis grow the fuck up.

I agree with Zeus, some kids are alwayts bitching and
whining about the other site (watmm if youre on xltronic, or
xltronic if youre on watmm).

We've established there is a difference, but if you don't
like them over there, go and tell them, don't bitch about
them on here.

And I use both boards, liek Zeus, so I'm fairly impartial.

Fucking whiners.

What's going on here?

Slagging off watmm? We'll have none of that. Think
yourselves lucky that there's even one board where
like-minded people can gather... that there's two and more
is a godsend, so stop twining.

Slagging off xltronic? We'll have none of that, a) cos I
said so, and b) cos I said so, so ner.

Licking of balls? We'll have none of that unless they're
mine and you're an exceptionally attractive young lady.
Though not too young lest it be thought illegal. Actually
not necessarily atractive either. As long as there's
femininity and a pulse I don't mind.

er...

So I guess the answer to my original question is "yes" and
"no" depending on the experiences of the respondents.

I didn't know that some people were so sensitive about a
simple question that wasn't intended to be threatening or
offensive. I experienced something unique on watmm
messageboards and I just wanted to know if my experience was
out of the ordinary.

I'm sorry to have I offended anyone - generally I find the
people on this board very polite, open-minded, and they have
great taste in music.
